You would think so, yes. Although whether Maya or someone else, just as long as Bertrand doesn't get it back again.
Not sure but, a minute or so after full-time, Charlie Austin had such a go at Bertrand that Stuart Armstrong had to pull them apart. Vin
There's something up there if you ask me. Maya has been a stalwart for the club and played under Hughes last season and then vanishes off the face of the earth only to re-appear the week Big Les gets dumped? If he'd come in for top goalscorer Hoedt I would have considered it a natural mangerial move but the way its gone I reckon Les has been influencing the selection. And what the hell has the great dane done to not get a sniff over Hoedt. He was no worse in the early games.
That Vestergaard is so slow is unquestionably an issue. However, Vestergaard's slowness mostly presented a problem when he had to cover for Hoedt's wanders, so I too would like to see him alongside Yoshida.
Yep, it’s definately very weird. I really don’t get any of the CB pairings which MH has gone with. Not saying they’re wrong, just the way he’s gone about. Maya certainly had a very reasonable to good performance Saturday; fantastic considering how long he’s been on sidelines.
Granted he has played more but big Wes has more lives than a cat with Hughes. Two own goals in two big games isn’t bad luck, it’s just bad play but vestergaard and Stephens get dropped and yosh can’t get a start. Hughes has had weeks to get this stuff sorted out. He’s on track for 30 points and worst manager ever. Apparently this is his worst ever career results record. Yay for us. he’s fast running out of time. And combinations. And strikers
I’ll echo that, Vin! Great to see you and have a good old chat. Gutted about the result - thought Watford looked unbelievably poor and we were really up for it. If “that” goal had been allowed, I think we could have gone on and scored a couple more - you could see the confidence flowing until that bloody ref / assistant disallowed it. Thought Redmond and Gabbi were our best players - great to see Maya back. Now make him skipper, please! It’s an old chestnut, but we’re just not getting the bounce of the ball - their goal could have gone anywhere and I was surprised at how bad they were for a team in the top half of the table. Hope I’ll be able to make the Man U game - up for a meet if I can.
I was half expecting to wake up this morning and to see Hughes had been sacked. If we don’t come away from Fulham with 3 points then that surely has to be the final straw, I see no other option.
I'm in the stick up for Austin camp. No-one in the ground thought that goal shouldn't have counted. The Watford players didn't call for it. Their fans weren't yelling about offside, more "here we go again". And Watford looked beaten at two-nil down. Should Watford have had a penalty? Probably, though Bertrand did (just) get the ball, albeit with a scissor tackle that took down their man. Should Bertrand been sent off as a result? Again, quite possibly. But that's not what Austin is paid to do - he's paid to put the ball in the back of the net and he did that with aplomb. I can't blame him for absolutely fuming at the disallowed goal. Lousy ref, just like the one that let the handball stand at their gaff last season.
I have read, on another forum, that the club can’t afford to sack Hughes, as they are mortgaged to the hilt and can’t pay off his contract. The usual claim is that this information “comes from someone inside the club”. I am sure that there will be other rumours worming their way into forums, to support or belittle this. I have no opinion on it. What will be, will be.
