A 15-year-old girl is in a critical condition after a bus crash in the south London borough of Croydon.

A double-decker bus is believed to have collided with a car, another bus and a bus shelter just after midday on Sunday, police said.

The teenage girl was a passenger on the double-decker.

She was treated by ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to a hospital in south London.

A number of other people were treated for minor injuries.

The male driver of the double-decker bus has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and is in custody at a police station in south London.

    Leaf warning<laugh>

Southeastern Railway will run a reduced timetable next week to cut the chance of accidents due to leaves on the line.

As autumn leaves begin to pile up on the ground, 50 million of them fall onto railway lines.

When mixed with rain and squashed by train wheels, they form a slippery layer on the rails like black ice on roads.

Many companies announced their autumn timetables at the end of September but Southeastern is bringing in a short-term amended autumn timetable during the "worst of the autumn weather" between 12 and 16 of November.

This means that some off-peak trains will call less frequently at 28 stations in greater London.

Among the places affected are Bexley, Deptford, Plumstead and West Dulwich.

Up to 6,000 passengers will be affected each day, according to the company.

50 million<laugh> SEEMS LIKE A RANDOM GUESS TO ME.

I bet there used to be more leaves before the Great Storm. I reckon the weather did the railways a big favour by destroying 80% of trees in the South <ok>

Like the article says, the leaves compact on the line and the train wheels can’t grip. But this problem has been known for decades and still it persists.

Things are no better now ( maybe even worse) than 30+ years ago
