    It depends entirely on the person viewing/hearing the comment. I do stand up comedy and a lot of the stuff I do is a tad riske, but I never say anything to cause offence, because in my opinion;

Offence is taken, not given out. I used a joke about fundamentalism, that went:

"Stand up comedy is like extremist fundamentalism, it's all well and good when you're in the flow, but one wrong move and it can blow up in your face."

Now, after the show, a yuppie looking bloke came up to me and told me that was racist. I asked how it was racist and who he thought it was aimed at and he replied "Well, it's all about Muslims innit? Blowin' themselves up an' that. You should be ashamed."

"No mate, never once did I mention Muslims, the Islam faith or any other religion, if you look up fundamentalism, you will see that across history, it has covered science, religion (including Christianity, which I thought was amusing considering he was wearing a crux) and even economics and the media. You took what I said into your own context and made it racist. Yeah, it was a bit suggestive, but if you took it as racist, then you must jump to that conclusion straight away. If you saw a sweating Asian man on a plane, would you call out for an air stewardess to remove him from the aircraft? Of course not. You ****ing mug."

He didn't have a response, he was left fumbling with his baseball cap as I winked and walked off, feeling rather satisfied. As for the pictures posted, to use a picture of a disabled child to indicate somebody is likewise, I wouldn't really say that's on. The kid can't help it and as stupid as the post might have been, it's not a comparison flattering to either party so it's not really worth doing. I don't find the picture offensive, or even posting it on here (you could have been more creative, I know I would have been), it's just the context of it. If you take offence, fair enough, but not everybody will agree with your point of view. Which is why, Ladies and Gentlemen, we are on a forum in the first place.

The picture is far from the worst I've posted on Not606, and certainly not the worst posted by any member.

I've seen threads devoted to blaming the Jews for 9/11, "In Memoriam" threads for IRA members, threads on genital mutilation, etc. Some of the pictures you come across on General Chat would have some of the soppy boys on this Hull board phoning the Police (especially one I was rather fond of, of a Horse ****ing a dead woman's chest).

Also, I don't see why people think that sticking me on their 'ignore list' <laugh> on a bloody Football messageboard is going to bother me. I like offending people, I like people who like offending people and I like offensive material. Sorry!

You've got a weird sense of humour Erik. Sometimes a bit OTT and offensive. But mostly amusing and informed.

There are worse things around than your postings.

And......you're sometimes pretty juvenile (if not even infantile). But a lot of other things annoy me more. Much more.

This debate wasnt about veils muslims etc. It was about the abuse suffered by English players, (we do all think they are English dont we?) being subjected to monkey chants. Then an internet warrior made the "joke" that Bulgaria hasnt suffered the black plague yet and then used the word "*******" which was obviously done to get a reaction when he could simply have used the word black.
It seems easy to sort out. Im sure OLM could arrange for Viking Erik to meet Aaron Mclean, Leroy Rosenior and Adebolla in the players bar and he could explain to them that Bulgarians know no better as they havent been subjected to the "black plague" yet, "joking"!! haha

I wouldn't class myself as a 'soppy boy', more like somebody who has a sense of right and wrong. You are right about the content posted on general chat but that doesn't make that OK, in fact I stay off that section myself because I don't see the relevance to a sports site. I'd suggest that you might consider that some people might find that picture offensive even if you don't yourself, and consider who reads the board, to be honest your attittude comes over as a bit selfish, as if you like something and why shouldn't everybody else? It doesn't work like that. I don't think you are a bad person but maybe taken in a bit with some of the rubbish posted elsewhere on the site.

Also the general chat is the place for the posts you are talking about Erik and not the Hull City board.

I blame it all on Hull City.
The threads get far too heavy when they have a weekend off.

Sad thing is, there is racism on this board. Seen it, ignored it and some of the people in this thread saying Bulgaria should be banned etc are some of the racists...

I wasn't addressing the "soppy boys" part to anyone in particular, and I certainly don't expect everyone else to 'like' my posts, etc.

However, I find it amusing that when I posted the picture that caused this furore, the only person who complained was the Leicester fan to whom it was addressed. Now, NFU/Chazz/PartHull took offense at me using the term '*******', and decided to bring it up - as if it were at all relevant. I wouldn't mind people saying "OK, I disagree with you doing this" if I didn't think they were being disingenuous, or that they were using it to try and show me as a bad person. That's exactly what's happened here; the aforementioned users attacked me as being racist, I defended myself, so they brought up a post from weeks/months ago just so they could say "see, he's an awful character and therefore he IS racist".

    Thanks for noticing.

Erik's comments in here don't bother me in the slightest though, it's shock humour, nothing more nothing less, he knows he's saying controversial stuff and he know he'll get a reaction. Yes it's racist, but I doubt he actually is. It's the people who don't actually think they are being racist who bother me, the people who find it easier to blame other races/nationalities for their problems rather than looking at themselves. People like this:

Yes, welcome to the gang. <ok>

    Cheers. <ok>

I agree wholeheartedly, but by virtue of the fact that I'm infantile, I don't care! It's self-perpetuating! :cheesy:

Like I said Erik I don't think you're a bad lad but it's about taste, what you find funny some others might not. The General Chat should be nuked off this site but thats my opinion, guess I'm just an old fart these days but I find most of the stuff on there a bit juvenile.

Words are words and only become racist if intended to be so. ******* is a genuine term not a racist slang term, and therefore anyone who takes offence at the word alone is fairly simple minded or complaining for the sake of argument. I grew up with coloured friends, one of my really good mates who's an Indian lad knows more 'paki'' jokes (as he'd call it) than Bernard manning, and genuinely finds them amusing. Racism is racist in itself, as acknowledging that somethings racist is acknowledging that persons different. People are people no matter what skin colour you have. What some people believe makes things racist would be like me calling my White mate with a mole on his face "moley" racist.

Racism only exists if there is a genuine grudge/dislike to other races/communities. Words are words, who really gives a ****?

Just the way I see it

I'm watching, but while it's a relatively open discussion involving several different posters and it does have football relevance I reckon it's okay. If it becomes too personal or just an excuse to be outrageous, I'll lock it.
