was just watching their game from yesterday against Boreham Wood. They are a National League North team on Merseyside and were once a League club way back in 1977. Looks like a pretty decent ground for a non league side, with a more modern terracing for home supporters behind the goal and for the away fans, older style rubble. Anyway enough of the who they are, I noticed the well occupied home terracing had pints of beer on the standing safety bars, supporters were drinking while in clear view of the game - are the rules different at lower league games or is it just overlooked? If it's quietly allowed, not a great idea while the TV cameras are there broadcasting to the nation
Fook off Tel! Just watching the highlights from Aldershot, if this had been the Prem you pussies would have got the match cancelled, pitch is so water logged the ball moves about 2 feet before stopping.
That’s why we have good drainage strategies mate. I’ll be hoping our game gets cancelled by about 5pm today though
Yeah the no drinks in view of the pitch rule is top 4 tiers only I think. Not sure it warranted a thread though Matth.
I've travelled to many an away ground and never been allowed beer on the terraces that i can remember. So how are Southport getting round the rules, I had to check i wasn't watching the Rugby
Don't see any of the other non league clubs allowing beer in the stands as i'm watching the highlights #BeerWatch You're only jealous because your not drinking beer at the moment.
Some non league teams allow beering while watching the game. I once went out with a bird from Southport. Fit as ****. Couldn’t understand a word she was saying when she was drunk. I nicked her from a Liverpool FC player. Good times.
I think the current rules are out dated and if it is allowed at non league grounds, where there is more likely to be trouble these days than at a lot of league grounds, then it's just making a mockery of the rules. Obviously they could still ban it for rival games, so for us this season that would be Charlton.
Southport used to be posh when I was a kid. It’s a proper ****hole now, shame tbh. As for the ale, pretty certain it’s allowed outside of the league pyramid. Not sure whether that would apply if they drew a big club in the latter rounds though?
I'm sure especially for the lower league clubs it would certainly help the pennies if they could have beer on the terraces. A lot of the clubs rely on merchandise sales, especially stuff like food and drink. If you were allowed beer in view of the pitch, then i'm sure lads would be prepared to pay the inevitable price mark up - which can only be win, win for the smaller clubs.
The whole ale at football thing is bollocks anyway imo. It’s OK to get leathered beforehand and on the concourse but you can’t have a sip whilst seeing the pitch, meh. I’ve been in boxes where they’ve brought out Tea cups and mugs to put your bevy in at 2.45, in case the coppers use the CCTV to look in the boxes, it’s utterly ridiculous. I remember get absolutely **** faced drinking red wine out a mug at Villa watching us get bummed 4-0 one Christmas
They should have service people like the yanks have. Give em a whistle. 'oi mate, 7 pints of lager, cheers' What could possibly go wrong.
They had vendors with non alcoholic beer walking around the stand when we went to Milan. Presumably do proper beer when they can.
