I cannot fault the players effort today. They gave everything. We just aren't very good. Regardless of what Ralph was wittering on about this week we need some quality in Jan or we are down.

    Respectfully disagree.

Shouting "ITS THE REF, THE REF I TELLS YA!!!!" when they should have had a penalty and we should have been down to 10 (9?) men by that point is beyond ridiculous and just makes him look like a right bitter **** imo.

We'd have likely lost that game if there was a competent ref so it's silly to say he cost us.

He sounded like @astro's posts read on here ffs, he'll be starting a petition soon.

I bet Austin was told to mouth off to the media so that Hughes avoids a touchline ban. Austin will probably just get fined.

Yeah. The ref cost us the match, if you only watched the last 30 minutes of the match. The disallowed goal was an awful call; guessing that the ref was at enough of an angle that it looked like Yoshida was closer to the line of the goalkeeper, but that doesn't make it an acceptable call. But the missed pen was one of the worst calls of the year...nowhere near the ball, no hint of simulation (Chalobah had no idea he was even there).

We got the benefit of the bad refereeing right up until we didn't. We just have to find a way to win games on our own accord.

No way, he showed passion for the team and is obviously gutted by a ****ty reffing display.

I've gone into more detail further in the thread mate.

I've nothing against passion, but show it on the pitch rather than slagging off officials to cover our own inadequacies.

Good post by Schad above yours too.

Austin gets offside because the players can't get him the ball on time. That's the kind if playerhe us. He's not going to run by anyone so he hangs out and then times runs to create just a bit if space. He's an okay player, just on the wrong team.

The same could be said of Gabbiadini to a large extent as well. Long and Ings are our best strikers but it's not like they score that much. They just run around a bit more and play outside their roles.

Thought we looked much better with Armstrong because he could link up play a bit and we finally started stringing together a few passes in the final third. Also because Yosh is willing to push up a bit at times, It created a few more problems in the box.

Still think Hughes has to go. I don't expect a miracle turnaround if he is replaced but I think there are other managers who can squeeze a bit more out of this side and we will need every edge we can get.

The ref's position for the disallowed goal was nothing short of shambolic. Referees are trained to run diagonals, keeping the active assistant in their line of vision. He was on the wrong side of the play. He will get slaughtered by the assessor.

    Get a grip.
You all post on here about what streams working, who said what on Twitter etc. He was interviewed fresh from the game and probably hadn’t seen anything. Austin has been getting slated for weeks and has the chance to get some praise and 3 points, do you seriously blame him for losing his cool.

Ignore the Watford pen shout, the disallowed goal is the reason for all his anger/passion. Fair play to Austin, he voiced his opinion to the world .....fair play.

His poor positioning may also explain why he didn't see Berties challenge, too many bodies in his sight line, he cannot give what he cannot see and no help from his assistants either. Charlie was right, they need help to get the decisions right.

We have access to a lot more info than he did as soon as he steps off the pitch and has a mic stuffed in his face

You aren't wrong but he as an individual was well within his rights even if Watford had their own reasons to moan. Saying nothing does nothing IMO. That Ref was absolute ****e. I dont feel it reflects badly on Austin to call out bad calls like that. Watford can take care of their own, my support lies with Saints and Watford deserve to have a bad call after last year <laugh>

Hopefully the PL will give us Michael Oliver for the Fulham game so we can't complain about the referee.

Fair enough, I actually hadn't considered that mate and it's a good point in that he wouldn't have bebeen aware at just how blatant their pen was.

I do think in that situation though that someone should take control of the situation and not let him go to the interview while that angry.

Sadly we lack leadership right from the board room down to the playing squad.

It wasn’t aimed at any one person. I agree, Austin wasn’t thebest person to send for the interview. Today stung and Austin proved it.

Austin is getting stick non stop. The guys behind me, beefy. The guy behind me gave him a bollocking because people weren’t pressing behind him.

His goal was legitimate, and he was better than Ings whilst he was on.
