http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Steed-Malbranque-quits-football.html?ITO=1490 Former Tottenham, Fulham and Sunderland midfielder Steed Malbranque has quit football to spend more time with his son who has been diagnosed with cancer. Malbranque made the announcement just weeks after signing a two-year deal with French Ligue 1 side St Etienne after leaving the Black Cats earlier this summer. The former France Under 21 international has made just one appearance, as a substitute, for St Etienne and was left out of the squad by coach Christophe Galtier for the clash with Sochaux last weekend. It is believed Malbranque has now quit the game for good, bringing to an end a successful career which started at Lyon before moving to England. He joined west London club Fulham in 2001 where he remained for five years before heading across the capital to Tottenham. He won the league Cup in 2008 before heading north to Sunderland where he made 11 appearances before being told by Steve Bruce that he was surplus to requirements and was allowed to leave the Stadium of Light to join St Etienne.
Horrible to hear about any child having a major health problem. I'm sure that all of our best wishes go to the family at this time.
Highlight for me was when he scored the 5th goal in that famous cup semi-final victory over the Nomad's. Simple goal but the icing on the cake that night.
I remember that one. On a furious counter attack and all Steed had to do was tap it in from a few yards. Great effort for all involved if I remember. =) Top bloke. I'll echo everyone else's sentiments and wish him all the best.
I always liked Malbranque. He used to put the effort in for us, and he was not without a touch of flair.
Was always a good player to watch so its sad to see him leave the game and i hope his son makes a quick recovery.
Echoing what everyone else has said. I have nothing but fond memories of Steed and, of course, wish him and his son nothing but the best. Let's hope Malbranque junior makes a full recovery.
Puts things in perspective doesn't it? Hoping and praying that Steed is playing kickaround with his son real soon.
Best wishes Steed. Hope everything works our for your family. You'll always be a part of the Spurs legends.
