A woman on our train commented that it was unusual for a bloke of 40 (like me) to have a small friend of 65 (like you).
Now now big bum, I realise non-league is not everybody's cup of tea. Honest football and the die hards that do go are mostly made up of fans fed up with the professional game.
This was a Kent League fixture played last Saturday. Not one of the better grounds but has lots of character.
No worries Elfs. This week's slight delay was in fact Roland's fault (what isn't?) I've been transcribing his interview with Jim White and it was more of a grind than I anticipated. I couldn't download the audio file from the TalkSport website, so I wanted to get it finished before they removed it!
On the way to Victoria now. My coach to Sheffield leaves at 8, arriving in Meadowhall at 11.30 All things being equal I should be at Hallam for 13.00. A shame that the oldest ground in the world is only two sided, and shares with the cricket club. Having seen the pics this is not going to be one of the better grounds but this needs to be ticked as a groundhopper.
Only £7.50 against £40+ on train. What with the £80 hit and a welcher, the Elf has to look at the pennies.
The journey begins with here. The name of the coach has some Cockney rhyming slang to describe our Moderator.
It's a s*** way of travelling tbh. 1/I make sure my last drink is ages before boarding coach. 2/I make sure I'm one of the first on the thing to get a decent seat 3/I pray the toilet is working Sheffield, Bristol and Cardiff can cost between £1-£10 maximum so I suffer the outward journey but the return is always done by train. Sheffield to Nottingham tonight by train as my bladder will be f***** by then! A poxy rail replacement service tomorrow means by road to Grantham to pick up the train home.
