The Sunderland fans on here all seem to have a grounded and realistic view of their club. Liverpool have clearly improved their squad since the start of last season, but how many of their signings would get into the Spurs first XI? Suarez and... erm, that's about it, for me. Not sure why Arsenal fans are suggesting that their team doesn't appear to be weaker, either. If you'd have suggested their moves at the end of last season, then the fans would have been up in arms. As I said earlier, I think it will come down to how each side deals with their European ties or lack of them. It will probably be quite close and the use of the January window could be very important.
Maybe I wasn't too clear there King, but I meant signings since the start of Dalglish's reign. Judging by your reply you agree with me, though.
Yeah i do. Adam is a good midfielder but I think we have better already and Downing would be a good back up player but again not as good as Lennon or Bale.
Fair enough mate. Football isn't a game of individuals though, otherwise Chelsea would've won the league over Man Utd last season.
And your point is...? Your sig is a little inappropriate given the result at Anfield last season, too. Were you previously known as Rauuuul?
I agree but the reason I didn't chose Adam or Downing as I was making the point that in my opinion only Reina, Suarez and Gerrard would make the starting 11 if I had to combine both team's strongest 11. Actually i'll add Agger to that as well. Reina Walker Agger King BAE Lennon Sandro Gerrard Bale Suarez Adebayor
Comparisons player for player are always pointless, without the injuries a Liverpool fan reckoned even Aurelio is better than Benny, something you will never find a Spurs fan agreeing with, same as King/Carrragher, Parker/Lucas, VDV/Gerrard, etc. 10 games in and we'll have an idea how each team is shaping up for the season, until then it's a case of taking one game at a time.
Yeah, I was. Why is it inappropriate, its just a Bill Shankly quote, it has nothing to do with the modern day Tottenham Hotspur. And my point was, that there's no point comparing individuals that play on a football team by saying X player > Y player, because that's spectacularly missing the point about how football actually works. Do you actually think if Spurs have 6 players (or something similar) that are better in their respective positions than Liverpool, then it means they'll finish ahead of them in the table? If not, then what's the point in comparing players? In my opinion Enrique and Johnson/Kelly would be nailed on for the full back positions, and Lucas would get in there ahead of Sandro. Opinions, eh?
I'm sure that we're all aware that having 11 individually brilliant players won't necessarily win you the league, but I was just pointing out that Liverpool's signings don't seem as spectacular to me as many of your fellow fans would have us all believe. Most of them were improvements on what you already had, but would struggle to get into a number of the teams that finished around you in the table last season.
No one's saying Adam, Downing and Henderson are world class or spectacular players, I haven't seen that said by any sensible Liverpool fan. Can't help but feel you're making things up, or taking something out of proportion, just to suit your argument?
Just incase anyone's not on Ja... http://www.ja606.co.uk/comments/viewAllComments/34613/2 Suarez is one of the top 5 players in the World
I expect Liverpool to finish above us this season, mind you I expected that the previous two seasons as well. The last decade I expected us to finish above Liverpool two seasons in a row was the 60s, so this decade's been a pleasant surprise already in that respect For me, our 'so/so' window and perennial injury crisis means we'll finish 7th this season.
God another person who thinks we will finish 7th? What team is going to finish ahead of us then? Stoke, Sunderland, Bolton, Newcastle? Or maybe one of the promoted sides
I think that you're just ignoring the opinions of those that you don't feel are sensible. A large number of Liverpool fans seem to be writing us and Arsenal off already.
6th is the worst case, IMO. The top 3 will be City, United and Chelsea in any order, and 4th will be battled out by us, Arsenal and Liverpool. 7th will only be the case if we slip up majorly in some way.
