I had a cup of tea and scon at Princess Alexandras 21st birthday party at Windsor castle around the middle sixties Later I shook hands with the Duchess of Kent when she visited our works. But best of all George Tweedie, the then Engand goal keeper, hit me round my ears when I asked him for his autograph after City beat them in a cuptie just after world war two, and finally I helped Micheal Foot off a train at Paragon station when he was Labour leader, I wouldn't have done it for Tony Blair.
This train anecdote reminds me I saw Tosh Lines of the Bill in Sheffield station once, queing up for cigs. He's deceased now I think.
I met George best after an 'evening with night' with him and Rodney marsh at crest hotel. Asked him what he wanted to drink.....bottle of vodka and then off to bed he went!
Kevin Lloyd .Dead as a door nail ,choked on his own vomit . His brother was the journalist Terry Lloyd who was killed in Iraq . Tragic when you think about it .
Spoke to plenty of the FC boys getting on their coach tonight too, although not quite as sharp in the head as some (most ) some really nice fellas there, all of them happy to have a chat and a photo!
Pierluigi Collina please log in to view this image Met him in Florence airport, going through the metal detectors
Met Georgie Best and Dennis Law when they came out to Oz doing a speaking tour. Both a good laugh, amazing all grown men mostly queing for autographs I said to Dennis law you broke my heart when he equalised against City in the Watney Cup in 1970, saiud it must have been lucky. I sure he remembered the goal! He did tell a funny story about in the Man U heyday they were on a 1,000 pound a week and they ie Charlton,Best, etc felt they should have a payrise,so they drew straws as to who would go and speak to Matt Busby. Law had to go ,didnt last 5 minutes with Busby, blkasted him for his cheek and deducted 220 pounds off all their wages. Best was asked who was the dirtiest player you played againsttt......Leeds United! He said they were all dirty especially Paul Reaney who managed to split Bests jockstrap. I did have a long chat with James Johnstone MP for West Hull at time in 85 on the train from London to see City play Walsall. He invited me to the Wallsall directors box to watch the game but i declined rather spend the match with others from City Supporters Southern Branch. I also used to work with Jo Brand as a psychiatric nurse in London. Pauline Collins was also on a 73 bus to town,John Aldertons dad used to have a offlicence down Hessle Road. And finally in theory i was not born but when my mother was preganant with me Neil Franklin gave her a lift home as she lived near the ground.
Desmond Dekker . Great Yarmouth scooter rally in the 80s...Buster out of bad manners at morecombe scooter rally in the 90s . Bobby Charlton when he opened school fete in Bridlington , Jacky Charlton in the st Catherines hospice shop in Filey a couple of weeks ago. He has a holiday home in Filey . Met and spoke to those mentioned.
She was a moody sod at times would say hello other times ignore you.SAnyway somehow she developed a dislike of me but me being a person who tries to get on with people persisted.Still did nt work. Anyway round Christmas 86 she had a party and one of my mates in the pub lets gatecrash it, i said i would not go becasue i would not be welcome.Anyway i did go but made sure i was in the middle as we walked in, anywau with a face of thunder she opened the door and waited till i went by and then said What you brought the whole ****ing hospital with you. I said Jo did not really want to come i will go...Amazingly she said no you might as well stay.On Christmas Eve we were in the pub and i asked why dont we get on, somehow after that we became civil to each other. She was actually quite a compassionate person towards clients but very scathing towards people she had a dislike to.Very black and white. I left there in 87 to come here but when back in 92 in UK she had started standup, a friend of mine was a good friend but guess what that was all forgotten with fame and fortune. Good luck to her for having the balls to try out her wit, but she might might have forgotten her roots.
Prince Phillip, Steve Diggle (Buzzcocks guitarist), Stan McEwan (played golf with), Nathan Doyle (lives next to my sister), also saw Brian Clough & Jimmy White in Derby (didnt speak to them though).. oh and had a beer with All-Black rugby star Rico Gear..
I've met a few famous people, Bobby Charlton and Trevor Brooking when they came to Longcroft school in beverley, Simon Fox from Ocean Colour Scene after a gig in Exeter, he was pissed right up! I met wolf from Gladiators when I was 9 and recently met Mike Atherton after a T20 game in Bristol. I regularly saw Richie Mccaw and Dan Carter when I was living in Christchurch,NZ.
Yes, that is how i came over here.Unfortunately there is a always plenty of work. But i still enjoy it,thanks.
