Got me thinking, whilst I think Cest' is right and comparing relative players and success in the last 15 years or so, the mags don't really out do us at all, it would be interesting to see support had club situations been been reversed

Anyway my main point is has the Mags push for glory changed us Sunderland fans. I remember at Roker Park we were always the plucky underdogs as were Newcastle, I remember the cup runs etc, in the Prem we were like stoke supporters of now, just supported the team.

These days we seem to demand more, we are not the accepting "any old **** this is my team" mentality, we seem to be much more demanding, I welcome all the "we deserve more for ticket prices etc" but did our patience run out because of the mags short time at the top?????

I honestly think that at times the huge mass of fans many unforgiving of mistakes hampers our players, look at our ex players at stoke thriving on small but full backing. Are we fans that know more or are we too quick to critise these days.

Is the large support and the large expectation of both sets of fans now a hinderence to the performance of our players, for example Steve Bruce stating "These players will learn fast about fans up here" etc -

I'm not arguing that people don't have the right to voice their opinions I'm just asking has it changed and does it help?

For me I think supporting has changed since the introduction of all seater stadium.......go on then rip me a new one!

Think it is a long winded look at the strange correlation between performance and attendance.

While you would always expect prem attendances to be higher than in championship. Doing well in premiership will bring good attendances but a drop in prem performances will see a drop in attendances.
You would still expect prem attendances to be higher than championship attendances but doesnt always happen even though you are lower than a poorly performing prem team.

    I think

Facts, attendances prove all. We are up **** creek yet still get more.

Everyone has their hangers on, and your attendance at the next home game is likely to be 40k.

We had 42k against Fulham of our own supporters, and I fully believe we will have more against Blackburn.

Your support isn't as good as ours, get over it.

come on maggies, it could probably do with a couple of spaces but its hardly james joyce. seems some of you are a bit grumpy at the minute...

in response to the op, perhaps we are more demanding as fans these days, but then our manager has more resources at his disposal than anyone else before him, and still managed to sign bendtner when needing a goalscorer, while continuing to play richardson at left back when he's barely a footballer. probably explains some of the disappointment, at least of late.

What an absolute load of truffle. How on Earth did you even think of that paragraph in that series of words without falling asleep OP?

SAFC fans expect, because they're desperate for it. Simple as. Same as City fans, although they've now bought their way to the top and now expect even more.

Sunderland won't challenge at the top for one reason, Keane highlighted it to the masses a few years ago and every word of it stands true to this day.

also, i don't see where the gripes about attendance have come from... he's talking about the attitude of fans at the game, and the pressure they put on the players, be there 40 or 40 000 fans
