That is a particularly grim example, but an awful lot of restored artwork is really iffy. The restorers just don't have the same talent as the original artists.
yeah, I mean there's cases of vandals slashing paintings and someone has to "do something" but to imo vandalise a faded art that badly in the name of restoration is astounding. "touching up" colour i think covers the brush strokes that are the essence of what made the thing a masterpiece.
Don't know if any of you have watched 'The repair shop' on telly but there is a picture restorer on there and she is brilliant along with the lady who does the ceramics.

I really.dont know how the person got a restoration job on a major price of art but seemingly nobody checks the work til the end.
