I never like to see a manager lose his job (Redknapp the exception) and I will forever be grateful for Hughes keeping us up.

But things are dire at the moment, have been for far too long and no sign of improvement.

Whilst there are other factors this squad lacks passion, desire, fluidity, even the ability to pass a ball.

Would like to see some high pressing, slick movement, free flowing football, a goal would be nice too.

If Hughes can't deliver that then find someone who can.

Chris Wilder is doing a great job at Sheffield Utd. Just saying.............

Agree with that post, but we appointed Puel, who was/is seen as a good promising appointment.
We had one of the best CB's in Europe given a new record breaking long term deal & our wage structure had just reached its highest ever stage. Mistakes have been made, but not from the want of trying. And that's not making excuses.

I'm still in the keep-Hughes camp, but to be honest I don't really credit him for keeping us up, and therefore I can't be particularly grateful. We stayed up because of how inept Swansea were (and WBA taking too long to sack Pardew).

I wouldn't have been fussed if we'd decided against appointing Hughes full-time in the summer. He's far from the greatest manager around. But I do believe that since the start of the season, he's doing an acceptable job based on the players he has at his disposal. By and large he's trying to play positive football. By and large he's starting the players, and making the substitutions, that I want. I don't believe the players we signed were his choices, given how little he has played them (he might have had the final sign-off on them, but surely some of that has to come from him putting faith in the groundwork undertaken by the club; groundwork which seemingly has again failed).

But not believing that Hughes is at fault for our current league position is a totally different thing to saying that I have faith in Hughes keeping us up. With this current crop of players, I again think we only survive if three sides are worse than us. So even if I am fine with Hughes as our manager, if others get their act together such that we're going to go down anyway, then we might as well make a change. Nothing to lose. Whether your manager is or isn't to blame for you going down doesn't really; the fact that you've gone down is the only overriding thing. So take a punt on someone else, and see what happens. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and there's actually so much more to get out of these players; a Thierry Henry hidden in Long, or a Robbie Fowler tucked away in Austin.

Nah joined the year after he left.

As a side note, I didn't know that Mark was actually his middle name. Interesting first name too <yikes>

Isn’t it the case that addicted gamblers have an inert belief that just one more bet or throw will save the day and see fortune restored? That’s the lot of football teams/supporters alike in the Premier League. We’ve chopped and changed, yet half way through a season, Koeman included, people on this board and elsewhere scream for a new manager. Sparky is in a fix, the players are not thinking for themselves, that much was painfully obvious yesterday, they haven’t been doing that for 2 years or more. The Board are totally responsible for this mess and should go, MH needs the support of more intelligent people to find the players capable of living in the PL. However we feel about it, booing players on Saturday if things don’t happen does not help or work. They’re not all responsible, some are clearly out of their depth, despite the ridiculous fees paid to get and keep them. The Board needs to know ‘they don’t know what they’re doing’!! Tell them!

Press reporting Hughes faces the sack. I'm not opposed to that as he has not delivered anything other than the worst result record of any manager in our history. Quite an achievement following MP2.

However, two top candidates Fat Allardyce and David Moyes. I'm cancelling my streaming subscription and blocking all social media if either of those happen.

Apparently we couldnt get Jardim after Monaco. Who'd a thunk that?

This is the biggest issue about sacking Hughes, we would only be left with the usual names. Nobody who is seen as a young progressive manager is going to come here if they are in a job. Maybe in the summer if we are still a PL team. The only hope is we give someone a contract til the end of the season, but actually bin them off and don't get all giddy that they keep us up and give them a new contract.

Like I said there were rumours coming out the club before the City game, so it is obvious after a bad result they get worse. I can't see him lasting much longer
