The FA have announced he’ll be given his last cap to make it 120. What a joke. What happened to players getting in on merit? What kind of message does that send out? Pack of stupid bastards.
It's for his charity, fair enough. Doesn't mean he has to play. He can turn up, hand over a novelty size cheque before kick off and watch the match amongst the VIP's. This idea has come from America. There's money to be made there for him playing against the USA. Money that won't be going to charity.
What I don't get, is why this has to be badged up as England... Why can't it be like a Socceraid game, make-up of former England players against the current USA crop? I can't wait to see Mark Zuckerberg playing upfront for England because he spends a few quid on charity. This is an atrocious idea, from an atrocious and corrupt organisation.
It's basically just a charity testimonial. Let them get on with it I say. He was a class player for the national team.
But it’s not mate. It’s classed as a full international. Same status as, say a game against Scotland for example. Players coming up to a milestone cap level will now expect the FA to throw them some caps to get them over the line. Dangerous can of worms.
I wouldn't worry too much, in terms of the cheapening of international caps, the horse has already bolted. Probably when Carlton Palmer and Geoff Thomas got the three lions on their chest
It'll be good for UK USA international relations (as long as we don't win). And we need all the international friends we can get.
Think its bollocks this. No problem with him playing if its a charity game but it shouldnt be designated a full international and he shouldnt be given a Cap for it. What if he scores - would it go down on his international goal record? Can imagine Harry Kane making an appeal to the International Court of Human Rights if he does, (or claiming it came off him last).
It's a ****ing joke. About 20 minutes given to him on Football Focus on Saturday. A BBC reporter flown out to interview, all on license fee money. He plays in ****ing yankland, FFS
I guess the question is whether anyone gives **** about a friendly with the US. If they do, then only decent players should be in the squad. If they don't, then they don't. I think I am in the "don't care" group, though I'm not sure I can be arsed to decide
Alternatively we embrace the concept, pick some really **** opposition, like Scotland, and give Bobby Charlton another game to see if he can score 5 goals to get his England goalscoring tecord back.
