cant be bothered reading the whole thread but see fairport and sandy denny/solo mentioned in despatches..for fairport you cant go wrong with unhalfbricking or leig and leif ( prob their acknowledged classics ). I `d also put in a shout for john renbourn - used to be guitar player in pentangle...his instrumental stuff is often amazing , based on medieval tunes, madrigals, odd tunings etc ( the black balloon is one of his best albums I think ) . However , king of the folk hill is bert jansch , but he`s scottish so you cant have him
