I have always enjoyed attending games not involving Charlton. I realise there is not the passion and excitement with watching your own team, but the flip side is that you can enjoy the game without the stress.

The attendances at non-league football do support the fact that not many people do attend games outside of their own team. I'd be interested to see how many people on this board go to other games, realising that Ponders will come on and list some interesting games he has seen this season.

No, I'm a Charlton fan, not a football fan. A few years ago I was at Southampton Vs Bolton in the Premier League, it was 0-0, I may as well have had a good nap.
I started listening to Robbie Savage on 606 last night raving about the idea of a European SuperLeague, saying Wow Liverpool Vs Barca or Manure Vs Real Madrid, why would you want to watch Southampton Vs Burnley on telly when you can watch Man City Vs PSG? A sad state of affairs, and a change from when Danny Baker ran 606 as a real fans' show, so I turned it off after about 20 seconds.

I must admit, I didn’t even stand up when we scored yesterday. I’m finding Charlton a chore at the moment. Hopefully it’s juat a phase.

Very nostalgic going to the Valley with my elder Brother yesterday. We have both been going since 1961/62. He misses not coming anymore as he lives in Valencia. He couldn't get over how empty it was and also the standard of Football.

Did you used to stand on the old East Terrace ?

I used to love it on there.

It varied. If we were with my Dad we used to stand on the East terrace. If we were without my Dad it was the terracing between the West Stand and the Covered end.

Who would the top 16 teams in this European Elite league be? The idea seems to have stemmed from Bayern.

    Man Utd
    Man City
    Chelsea
    Liverpool
    Arsenal
    Bayern
    Barca
    Real Madrid
    Juventus
    PSG

    And then ?....maybe Celtic <laugh>

Brian Clough was right when he said live football on telly would kill the game.
South-east quadrant for me. Same barrier every game, same assorted oddballs each of us on our own barrier, waiting for the peanut man

The things I remember most from those days is the smell of Old Holborn and eating a bag of roasted peanuts. I also couldn't wait for them to put the half time scores on the boards, it all seemed magical.

F*** 'em, let them enjoy the sterile atmosphere at these games and then enduring the same old stuff after 3-4 years.

It is just a phase Royston, which will end when Roland buggers off.

Scoring goals and winning games every now and then in the 3rd tier is better than not scoring and not winning (and we've had plenty of that), but the real joy of hopefulness for something better has long since been muted by the rudderless drift of our Club into obscurity.

Poor old Bowyer is having to swim so hard against the tide of RD's indifference and tight-fistedness, it's enough to weary any soul.

You are right @lardiman - nothing will ever stop the love of our old club & the Valley, but it’s an undeniable grind at the moment.
