What about van Persie in a free role behind either Park or Walcott? I'm not sure how it'd work, and it could possibly hinder the width of the team. Would most likely also require a shift of formation, although not necessarily. Man Utd have played at times with a completely fluid front 3, would this be something Arsenal could go for? The interchanging of the wingers so far this season has been fantastic in my opinion, even if it hasn't yielded great results as yet, but van Persie has tended to stay in the Centre Forward role. Would you like a switch to 4-4-2 with Park/Theo ahead of RvP and give him "the Bergkamp role" in the hole? Would you like to see more interchanging of positions between the front players?
4-4-1-1 or 4-3-1-2 then. The latter is out of the question, as it features no wingers, which is ridiculous for a club like ours for many reasons. 4-4-1-1 could possibly work, as a 4-2-3-1 when attacking. We've tried that before with Van Persie up front, but if it was more 4-2-2-1-1 than 3 midfielders, then maybe.
he has played there for us occasionally, when we have needed a goal and wenger has thrown on bendtner for wilshere, fab dropped deep and rvp went into his preferred 2nd striker role.
RVP, has ablity, but need's to improve his all round game even more, to become a world class striker.
Well if his goal tally for the year mirrors the performance of the second half of last season when he came back from injury then he could very well be on his way...
thing is lex, he won't get there, because he's not a natural striker. this causes him to drop deep in games when he doesn't get the ball often, congesting the midfield further. it also leaves us with no one in the box for crosses or short passes into the box, and so we struggle to score. he needs to play behind someone to control the attacking play with wilshere, in a 4231 or 4411, but not as the lone striker.
RVP and Rooney have are more less of the same ability, if not RVP has more technical ability. But Rooney upped his game the last couple seasons, and consistently preforming, RVP should be able to do that aswell, but maybe the players around him, are either not good enough or don't suit his style of play.
The free role is Van Persie best and most natural position. However he needs a runner in front of him. Perhaps Walcott, Park or Gervinho could do this. (If I had to choose I would go with Walcott because he's a good finisher and his ridiculous pace) I still think However Benzema and Van Persie would be the perfect combo.
RVP sucks in the number 10 role. He is better in a more advanced bergkamp role. Not a playmaker role (ala zidane, sneijder)
He too had remarked on that position here although he did add that it could be looked at on a game by game basis. Think Arsene would go for it? Trouble is Arsene seems so set in his ways. I really think someone should be brought in on tactics. Arsene holding this baby on his own doesn't work every time out. Oh how we need the return of David Dein.
I agree with most people here. I really don't see RVP as an out an out striker. He would best fit the Bergkamp role. He can be very creative when need be and can easily play behind the striker(s), or on the right-side of the front three. I still don't think Wenger has got the positions of our front line players correct, but playing RVP behind our strikers as a link to players such as Walcott, Gervinho or Park, could be devastating. Alternatively, this can be implemented as a counter-attack measure when our usual style of play isn't working. A plan B Mr Wenger! The big question is, WHY HAS ARSENE TOTALY ABANDONED OUR INVINCIBILES STYLE OF PLAY?!?!?!
They say old people are set in their ways. A donkey carrying a fat obese 25 stoner with shopping bags would be less stubborn!
Well let's hope that Arsene does indeed consider these options and change tactics. May very well change our season for the better. With Jack out for 3 months we need every bit of innovation.
Well it has been said that he may approach Arsene for a variation of his current role. If he feel more effective in a free role then it's something we should consider. The Netherland's result at the weekend San Marino notwithstanding, should be enough of a pointer that we should try this out.
