And when did we last see a standing ovation at the half time whistle? Well done lads, Lambert has got total commitment. Quality, more skill more talent may come later.
Preston have not threatened or caplitalised at all on our sloppiness and Roberts looks as though he should have been involved more on that evidence. Freddie is having a very good game, lovely little run from box to box just before the goal - chalk and cheese to his performance at Millwall.
As Hampy says, not a lot different in our play so far but I have noticed there is more drive in the team. The lads are busting a gut to get to loose balls, we're winning more 50/50s and the press is much better. Still some rushed passes from the back and over-hit, over enthusiastic long balls but there are also more controlled passages of play as well. Playing Roberts is working due to his size and ability to compete with CBs for aerial balls. Flynn Downes has delivered some quality dead balls and Freddie is running his socks off. Overall, I'm liking what I'm seeing. Lambert is proper animated on the touchline and is constantly organising and ordering his players about, he was right when he said he'd put 100% in and must be sweating almost as much as the players! Come on Ipswich!
Very good spell from Town at the end of the half, closing down very fast and pressure down the wings that has caused their keeper to go into headless chicken mode. That little bit of sharpness can really make all the difference when the margins are tight.
You're right, Preston have not taken advantage of a couple of terrible moments but I think Roberts is doing ok in the front role. He's certainly managed to win and hold up more balls than Sears or Jackson have in previous matches and looks like a good call from Lambert to play him there. There are more positives than negatives from that first half. Still some mistakes etc but a lot more better play than we've seen lately and it looks like it's been a good weeks work with the lads on the training pitch.
Tempo is superb from Town, if we can maintain this for the next few weeks then sides are not going to fancy playing us.
Silly foul to give away.....now's the time to see the real new character of the players. We need to and should win this game.
You gotta love footie. What a 1st match for Lambert. All we need is the winning strike. Who's gonna be the star today?
Town just not creating enough. Another good effort but yet another missed opportunity to get three points on the board.
Stranded at the bottom by five points now, failed to beat the worst side we have faced all season. Nothing less than a win will do vs Reading.
