Most were conscripted and answered the call to arms. They fought against Nazism and would be appalled that you feel the need to give someone a kicking because of a poppy ffs.
To be fair, i’ve just googled where the proceeds from white poppy sales go. Sounds a bit ****ty really. Still don’t think the idea behind it is that bad. Didn’t realise you could get purple poppies either, for animals killed in battle. Millions of young men died to allow us the freedom to even have these debates. We must not forget that.
Quite right. Im off out to find someone with a white poppy so I can kick them. Runt child are you wearing yours so I can kick you?
Not really the point. The point being that they probably wouldn't have condoned giving someone a kicking because he chose to wear a white poppy. I would wear a red one personally.
It is of sorts, we wear a red poppy to respect the fallen and all the white one does is kick then down.
As I said, I wouldn't wear one personally but wouldn't kick someone's head in over it. Anyway, what if they gave you a kicking?
In what way does it kick them down? For clarity, I proudly wear my red poppy, but I see the white poppy as just an alternative viewpoint, but still respectful of those who have died.
What am I meant to be reading about? I know the intended meaning of the white poppy. If others on both sides want to try and twist it to suit there agenda, there’s **** all I can do about that.
There were no white poppies or purple poppies on the killing fields of France and Belgium, neither were there any at Stalingrad and Kursk.. Only red and became more red by the blood that was spilled by proper men and real at 18 too.. what chance would we have now of replicating that in the masses? To many thicko's in society now to the not so long ago battles of life, ignorance is bliss as is a pair of dodgy jeans and having fun in some ****ty pub at happy hour, eyeing some dumb bird with a welded phone in her hand, in a City near to you on a Friday, Saturday night..
Indeed, why would anybody want to replicate the horror of humans being cut down by machine gun fire while walking towards the enemy, blown to bits by shells and mines, bayoneted and poisoned while choking to death with mustard gas?
I was talking about conscripted soldiers at 18 years old, not the ****ing war itself ffs.. Read above..
Because we might have too the way the world is going and our politicians constant plots against Russia to hide their own failures. My point was, that lads 18 year old and lots younger were lying about their age in 1939 to get involved in the war against nazism, could you see that now in this day and age?
To be fair, I don’t mind our 16/17 year olds not wanting to go out and die for a load of ****house politicians who would probably send there kids to a safehouse in Harrogate if there was even a sniff of trouble brewing. The world has changed dramatically, the days of going ‘over the top’ are over. And I am very ****ing thankful for that!
I think Nazism needed fighting against. It was an existential threat to Europe and the world and I personally would have signed up to fight against it. The problem today is that wars are not fought over protecting freedoms, they are fought on the whims of rich men who are greedy for money and power and I think most people are switched onto that. So rightly they should tell them to go and **** themselves.
