In the Talksport interview, Ruddock said he had targeted Cole because of the Manchester United striker's feud with fellow England star Teddy Sheringham. Cole was injured when Ruddock tackled him during a reserve game in 1996. "Basically, I loved kicking Andrew Cole," Ruddock told Talksport. "I know this is not big or clever but in one tackle I broke both his legs, because he annoyed me." Explaining the reason for the horror tackle, which sidelined Cole for several months, Ruddock said: "I'm great friends with Teddy Sheringham and Teddy Sheringham didn't like him - and if Teddy Sheringham didn't like him, I don't like him." Twitter users were unanimous in their disapproval of Ruddock's admission, with some noting that it was a good thing that the game had changed since the burly defender's 90s heyday. please log in to view this image Image Copyright @_Rob_B@_ROB_B Report please log in to view this image Image Copyright @kevbatgirl@KEVBATGIRL Report Others pointed out the different levels of success enjoyed by Ruddock and Cole. please log in to view this image Image Copyright @ManUtdNSW@MANUTDNSW Report The interview, which was conducted in 2010, resurfaced on Wednesday as part of a Halloween retrospective by the radio station. In a career that is best remembered for his time at Newcastle and Manchester United, he won all the major honours in domestic football, as well as a Champions League title. In a recent interview with the Guardian, he spoke about the kidney transplant that saved his life. In 2010, Cole revealed that he "would rather sit down and have a cuppa with Neil Ruddock" than with Teddy Sheringham. Cole said he never forgave Sheringham for snubbing him as he took to the field while making his England debut in 1995.
It all went on back in the day, when men were men Before the game went full on pampers. Bring back the crazy gang.
And speaking to talkSPORT in 2010, the man nicknamed ‘Razor’, revealed he relished facing Cole. “Basically, I loved kicking Andrew Cole,” he said. “I know this is not big and it’s not clever, but in one tackle I did break both of his legs,” he explained in reference to a reserve game between Liverpool and Manchester United in 1996. At the time the Liverpool stopper protested innocence, though not many people believed him, including Cole, who was not impressed by his opponent’s recklessness. It meant Cole, who joined United in January 1995, would have to spend the first few months of the season on the sidelines, though he still managed to play 20 games of the 1996/97 season and score six Premier League goals. “I didn’t mean to break both of his legs if I’m honest,” Ruddock continued. “I only meant to break one… it wasn’t even a free-kick, it was ‘play on’. “It was excellent because he let the ball run past him and I absolutely destroyed him. Again, I know it’s not big and it’s not clever, but it was great.” That whole interview was from 2010, they have just brought it up again as it is part of their "Halloween Horror Stories"
He’s good friends with Teddy Sheringham, I find it disgusting that he said that, I’m glad the game has changed to be honest.
But you weren't/aren't disgusted that Roy Keane admitted he tried to end a fellow professional's career. You're a hypocrite.
Ruddock is a grade A **** to, apparently he racially abuse Vieira to, don't blame Vieira for spitting on that fat mess.
Every club has had its share of players who really should have been strangled at birth but I thought we'd all, including you, agreed that more of them have played for Liverpool than any other club
I'm sure United fans can't stand Ruddock and Liverpool fans love him for one reason and one reason only - and it has nothing to do with Andy Cole
You'd be better off moving to Larkhall, no chance of those Jaffa's calling you a jock, they'd call you a bastard though.
