The point I am trying to make is that any team down to 18th place that can put together an unbeaten run of 10 or more game (a sprinkling of wins and draws) are likely to find themselves in a very good position to get automatic promotion. For me that is being consistent, it's not necessarily about having to win every game 1-0.

Being consistent in form will reap it's rewards for any team come next May. But we have already lost 3 times at The Gate this season out of 8 played and it's 4 defeats and 2 draws out of 9 played if you include the Plymouth LC result in that tally.

So I'm afraid that my conclusion is that all we are is consistently inconsistent

We've only lost one more game than Sheff Utd, (top of the pile)......It's the draws that's letting us down. To me that seems to be the difference.
This league is ruthless for most teams being able to get back to back wins, but like you say, just a few decent results and we would find ourselves back in it..
Staying positive, surely would be more beneficial to our cause rather than slagging off when we lose a game?!!

We are undoubtedly inconsistent, but so are many teams in a competitive league. I'd rather we were occasionally quite good and be where we are (i.e. within touching distance of the playoff spots), than consistently average and hovering around the relegation places.

Though I don't have huge faith we'll be able to do it, there is the opportunity if we can go on a good run of form. A new striker in January might be nice as none of our current lot are particularly pulling up trees, but with players returning from injuries, we have decent depth everywhere else.

If we can play like we did in the second half on Saturday all the time from now on we’ll be promoted as champions

I always find the consistent argument in football a strange one. The beauty of football is it's inconsistency. You have 11 individuals playing a different 11 individuals every week, often under different conditions, who had seen how you have played the week before and if you have played well planned to stop you doing the same.

check out forest green lost 1 DRAWN 9 as have MKD d 7 and Mansfield d 9…. FGR had it been 8 7 1 then they would be in autos along side MKD

of course the odd draw could be a loss but that is only 1 pt as opposed to 2!

It's actually quite an interesting view that in the long run it's more risky to be conservative than adventurous as the rewards on offer are greater the potential losses - we can thank Jimmy Hill for his part in introducing 3 points for a win rather than 2 for this very reason. Thankfully, in recent times we seem to have won more points in the last few minutes of games than chucked them away.

I personally would have liked 4 points for a win, 2 points for a score draw and 1 point for a goalless draw, would have been so much more interesting!!

Spot on, it’s why we like it so much, & why I’m not keen on the premier league , if you know what the result is going to be before you go, why bother going .

If you think that questioning our consistency is 'slagging the team off' then you really ought to get out more.

I think WE ARE a bit inconsistent in a number of ways, lack of scoring and erratic play through 90 minutes, one half 2/10 the other 9/10! team selection unfortunately has suffered from injuries but has also been a bit inconsistent from Lee's point of view .. at least he seems to have seen the worth of Taylor
IN 46 GAMES you could argue that consistency would be something like won 15 drew 16 lost 15 GF 50 GA 50 [ COULD BE 60 OR 70 ETC ] or even ave 1.5 points a game!

I think it's more like slagging off the manager you love so much!!

Steady on guys - I personally am overall happy with LJ - in some people’s eyes that makes me a ‘lover’, ‘happy clapper’ or something along those lines, but I too think we have been inconsistent - sometimes (as with Saturday) in the same game.
Angelic has a point imho - but for now I trust LJ to sort it out.

Most teams struggle with consistency in this league, all teams are all just trying to be more consistent than the others....We've taken 6 points from the last 3 games, which I don't think is too bad...sorry but some on here sharpen their knives on the back of a defeat and will always look for that moment to slag the manager off.
He's our manager and doing a decent job in a very competitive league, being less fickle wouldn't go a miss!!

Totally agree with the ‘sharpening knives’ comment mate - and also 6 points in 3 games is a good return.
I do think that PERFORMANCES have been inconsistent though. We were lucky against Hull and Brentford, but unlucky against Stoke. Just my personal view.
Not knocking the manager at all. It’s about to get really exciting when our crocks recover and we have a full squad to pick from.
I do want to see more of Walsh after what I saw on Saturday - he was superb.
My glass is most definitely half full :)

As you and your 'mate' are obviously incapable of carrying out a reasoned debate without twisting what others have said, which, it has to be said was the original purpose of this forum, then I suggest we draw a line under it right now.

It's not compulsory for you to reply to what I post, and in fact, I'd rather that you didn't.

I think I have a right to reply, not just to you but anyone I think is just commenting to have a dig.. strange how it is that when we win, you’re never there to praise the manager but when we lose, you’re there to criticise.. we know how much you don’t like LJ, oh and SL for that matter..
Shame, as quite a few of your comments, I actually agree with!!
