I agree, it would not surprise me that these Yanks sell him probably not in January but you can see him depart in the summer. That’s what investment gets you!! ;)

Very good news. Well done, Joe, on securing that deal. He sounds made up and very happy to be playing top level football for his home club.

Don't think he'll be sold at all. I can see the Ayew brothers, Bony (when fit) and Borja finally being offloaded either in January or in the summer to finally satisfy the hungry stomachs of the Yanks' bank accounts. Wouldn't be surprised if we're still paying a good portion of all of their wages during their loan spells. Routledge, Dyer and Narsingh could probably all go too - but I'd be loathed to rid of both Routledge and Dyer just yet.

Our academy graduates will all be put on good Championship level contracts and won't be on silly money. The idea behind the fire sale was to slash the Premier League wage bill. With that done, it makes sense for us to get Rodon, James, McBurnie, Fulton, Celina, Roberts, McKay et all, tied into lengthy contracts on Championship level wages with promotion incentives/bonuses.

The squad are thriving despite the board's worst efforts. Long may the performances continue. The Yanks and Huw will tell you that they've played a blinder, saving money and moving forward with a good, hungry young team. I certainly won't be giving the board an ounce of credit. The young lads have been thrust into a sink or swim scenario that they never should have had to face and fair play to them for swimming, but I still consider us very lucky to have not collapsed.

Regarding Dyer and Routledge , I really can't see the point in keeping either , neither seem to be in contention for a starting position and with Potters ability to place square pegs into round holes I can't see that changing, obviously the seasons got a long way to run and things can alter in an instant but I really don't see them having a future with the Club.

That's the way of it now. Protecting one's interests. Maximising one's resources. Nothing wrong with it.

The Owners are seemingly damned if they do, and further damned if they don't.

They would be criticised for not getting the player signed up to a new deal, and then having him walk away free gratis.
Agreeing a new, improved , contract with the player is then viewed with cynicism.

Based on the available evidence of their actions thus far, and based on my own experience with them, it is no wonder that I’m a cynic.

That said, I take your point <cheers>

He couldn't have walked away free no matter contract or not due to his age.

Vetch - common sense doesn’t ‘rule’ in this instance. The combination of what we’ve seen thus far, plus my own personal/direction dealings with them, causes / produces / leads me to my view of cynicism.

But - I can see and understand the point that you are making<cheers>

If that is the case, then there was no point in giving him a new contract.

The owners have been constantly pilloried on this forum, and it seems that nothing they do is acceptable.
The team are sitting far higher in the table than most were expecting, and this has dampened the criticism somewhat.
I quite often play Devils' Advocate just to stir things up, and I think the owners should at least get some recognition for the current position the team are in.
No need for cynicism when the facts stare you in the face. The team are doing pretty good, and the owners are entitled to some praise for that. It's THEIR TEAM, after all.

<cheers><cheers> Have two drinks, on me. Unless you cynically think I'm trying to influence you. <laugh>

I believe that he could have walked but that the Swans could have claimed compensation for nurturing his talent.

The new contract means they can secure a (far more valuable) transfer fee should they wish to offload him.

Yes, I seem to recall the compensation fee. That's a good idea. Wasn't there some bad feeling between Exeter and Chelsea recently re this ? Who decides on the size of the compensation ?

The team has outperformed expectations admittedly, but is that down to astute ownership?

It would take more than 2 drinks to influence me ..... 3 or 4, now that’s a matter.... <laugh>

The team were heading for a lower division long before the Americans took over, if my memory holds good.

According to Dai, The Swans' were relegated by Laudrup. <laugh>
