There's a massive gap in quality between Carroll/Ameobi and Rooney though, there's also a massive gap between Gerrard/Rodwell and Carrick/Cattermole. Plus Woodgate might be good on paper but he's never fit. Maybe the wingers, and the goalkeeper, are quite a bit better, but that's all there is.

Well Rio and Terry would probably not be the complete and utter arsewipes they are today, which can only be a good thing <ok> The fact they have been certain starters these last years has done England no favours at all <ok>

True, would have been nice to see them playing at their best though. Horrible when such a potentially brilliant career is ruined by injury.

The centre of Englands defence has been ran ragged a few times.

Them two were certain starters at Spurs when fit - everytime one of them were fit Harry Redknapp played them. Shows how good they are really. Woody is probably our best centre back over the last 10 years or so even though he hardly ever played

Him and Colo would be a dream :)

True. But, we still had John Terry/Rio Ferdinand there. Two 'world class' centre backs. So don't think things would have been any different either way

Rio is class. No question. John Terry, whlist having the heart of a lion, can be a liability at times. He hasn't the football brain to match it. King and Woodgate are both better CBs IMO.

I love John Terry. If I could name a team full of the best players I could think of I would have John Terry there as captain. Born Leader and superb defender - though I agree about bit of a liabilty, mainly through lack of pace. Rio is also class I agree. If all 4 were fit I would play King/Terry personally although that will never happend so England's best bet now is probably Cahill/Terry lol

He certainly benefits from a Carvalho type beside him, who can mop up everything he misses.

Agreed. Carvalho is probably the best natural defender in the world

I think when you come up against world class teams like Germany you need two CBs who are totally on top of things, both in strong defending and perfect reading of the game. One slight error at that level and it's goodnight Irene. It would be King/Rio for me. Off topic but keep your eye out for Seamus Coleman this year. An Irish Full Back at Everton. Has played a right few times but I think he will feature heavilly and have a massive year <FingersCrossed>

Exactly. That's all well and good against Stoke and the rest but up against a top forward line at the Euros or World Cup you cannot have any passangers. A couple of mistakes and it's home time. You will get severely punished.

My stepdad supports Everton and he raves about him - same with Rodwell. Agreed he sounds a prospect - a right sided Bale lol

Na, he's been injured for a wee while already and the six months was a ball ripper to start with. I would hope a couple more months, tops. Were you see the six months? Recently?

Nah, it was before the scan I think, was more speculation, which is why I wasn't really sure. Seems most places are reporting 6 - 8 weeks, which isn't too bad I suppose.
