In my opinion anyway. The best line so far ' if players make mistakes it's my fault ' - something Hurst NEVER came close to understanding. He's the type of manager I think you'd want to play for. He certainly has something about him and I can see Lambert WOULD motivate you to WANT to play. Happy with this. Sure, it could go wrong but right now I'm pleased.
I'm happy with the appointment, decent(ish) pedigree, and at a good age for management. But, if he didn't say the right things at his first press conference, then surely he'd be an absolute melt! I'll start to judge him over the next few weeks, lets see what changes he's going to make. Obviously it'll take a lot more than a few weeks, but you can usually get a gauge of someones intentions after a month or so in charge.
With line two, step forward Paul Hurst who pretty much proved from day 1 he was an absolute melt. We have a chance of staying up now at least. So I'm very pleased. It's a start. Welcome.
'Talk is cheap' .... and all those other cliches Not sure where this massive interest in pressers has come from as I've seen plenty of posts about how interesting Mick's were and how terrible Hursts were. Which is probably the very least of our worries.
Well for it's the fact it's the first thing the new manager has had to do - and I think he's walked through it with flying colours. Not helped by the ruddy interviewer asking 100000 times about his Norwich past. Do we want to succeed as a club!!!! Of course, talk is cheap - however watching Hurst's I had zero clue how he could motivate a pen let alone a football club. With Lambert, I can already see he has motivational skills so I'm pleased. I don't expect us to all of a sudden W W W W W, or even 8 points from 15, however I DO feel we've got a chance of improving - how much, I don't know. We'll ultimately see. Hard to really judge Lambert fairly either way until March now. * Not his squad until January. * January signings could be made late January. * They need time to bed in / etc - something unfortunately we're unlikely to have this season. If we can improve 25%, and Hull / Rotherham / Bolton / Reading continue NOT to collect many points, we MAY get out of this hole Hurst has got us into.
Nah I'm not going to forget Hurst quite so quick as some. He's got us into an absolute hole. Bottom of the league, with a poor squad and cut adrift from others. I expect a little more. However, as point out with this article - VERY happy with Lambert's presser. Very decent.
I thought it was a decent press conference, but as somebody who has worked in the media environment and done my share of interviewing and attending a couple of press conferences, I wouldn't place too much importance in this. Compared to how Hurst used press conferences, this could be seen as a refreshing reminder to the value of giving a professional press conference where answers do not have to be lengthy or too revealing. My highlight was Lambert insisting that the club had to play on the front foot and the need to look towards creating chances and attacking. He doesn't like defensive football, so that's encouraging, if we can abide by it. Imagine actually watching some joined-up approach to attacking compared to the rather sedate and cautious possession play from Hurst and the aimless direct play that invited pressure from both Hurst and Mick, which is what we've been subjected to over most of the past few years.
Here is a smart, smiling, positive Paul Hurst saying pretty much all the same things. Let's see Lambert's demeanour after a month or two and a disappointing defeat. Equally I don't judge Bobby Robson on the disappointment in his voice at the end of his time at Newcastle. It's results that matter Westlake, not good press conferences.
It's Marcus Evans who has got us into the hole, not Hurst and not even Mick. We are not suddenly going to be world beaters now you know.
That's really interesting because you were judging Hurst after just a couple of games, or maybe even less time. Let's give Lambert the Preston and Reading games and if we're still in the bottom three sack him?
I think most people could see very quickly Hursts cluelessness but that's not the point here, Westy is clearly conveying his confidence in the new manager based on what he's heard, he's not saying we are going to be world beaters, he is saying results will be the acid test, but he's simply saying he liked what he heard. As BA said Hurst has gone get over it, Mick has gone also, accept it and stop arguing with perfectly reasonable posts, its so tedious.
The only tedious thing around here is your moaning about the debate fieldmarshall. If you don't want to have debate on a football forum I'm not sure what you think it's for? All of us think it's a good press conference but it's only going to stay positive and happy if the results come and it will be a very tough ask. If you really have a problem with me making a point like that, I suggest you find a way to mute or block me. You are always trying to get a rise out of me and immediately after the helicopter crash was particularly inappropriate. Like I said then, just not interested in arguing with you.
[ Don't give me that rubbish given you didn't watch a game under Mick you've said. So why all of a sudden is it that? You CLEARLY don't fully believe that, so why type it. If it WAS just a results business you'd have gone to games our play off season. So clearly to you, it's not just that. I will get the usual reply with my words twisted to pieces by yourself - I will have to see what the bookmakers think really. That's the important thing.
Nah you're tiring. Talk absolute drivel have an agenda argue every point know everything have an answer for everything. FieldMarshall is a quality person I've had the pleasure of meeting.
Well, below is my rationale. * This squad isn't his. So really it's unfair to judge a manager managing players that aren't his choice. Of course, we'll have SOMEWHAT of an idea about him - but even if results were a parallel of Hurst's - sure we could judge, but be better to when he has his own players. * He's bound to sign some in January. Chances are, they will be towards the end of the month. So I think ( others may feel differently ) it might be fair to judge the new players after a few. Of course, people will judge who they want how. Unfortunately for Hurst, he sold tonnes, brought plenty in, bottom of the league so it's not hard to judge him. He's even admitted himself he would have done things differently - he'll learn - somewhere else in the future. Hope he does well in the future somewhere else. He ultimately had to go.
It wasn't Hurst's squad either, he had one window. I'm not saying he should have stayed, the point is the mess is not just down to any one manager, it's a culmination of years of bad decision making. If Lambert can turn it around he's a hero, but if he can't it doesn't make him a poor manager and perhaps if we're still in a lot of trouble come the window opening he should be thinking about a squad to win League One. He's really up against it.
I have no idea what you're on about, I watched a fair amount of football under Mick. Less at the end than usual because it was so dire.
I said weeks ago I'm not participating in the juvenile mud slinging any longer, if you two want to continue it says more about you two than it does me so fill your boots. End of really.
Fair enough I may be wrong but am sure you said you didn't go to games under Mick. Onto Saturday. COYB.
