I thought we were okay last night tbh, we gave them a game. Considering we've had no preseason for 8+ world cup players, plus Lamela, Wanyama and Winks. Considering we've had significant injuries to Rose, Alli, Vertonghen, Wanyama, Eriksen and Lloris, with Son missing a number of games with the Asian Games. Considering we didn't sign anyone. Considering we've been playing at Wembley again. 5th and 5 points off top is quite good really. It could have been a lot better too, were it not for a wrongly disallowed goal against PSV, the penalty we weren't given against Liverpool and the Kane chance wrongly ruled out for offside last night we might have been a point off top with the CL group qualification still in our hands.
Best consistent performance in the league over several seasons since the 1980s. Better consistency than the 1980s too.
What I actually said: one of the best periods in Spurs history See One of the best, not The Best are you the Daily Mail, twisting context and meaning.
What he means quite clearly is that we don't have our own home ground atm and that's a disadvantage and we had fewer days to recover and that's a disadvantage. The club is not focused completely because of the time being taken up overseeing the new stadium and booking Wembley, MK Dons etc.
One thing I've seen a bunch of Sheikh Mansour Team fans bleating online about how we should be ashamed of the state of "our" pitch last night. Does it really need to be pointed out that not only is it not our pitch, but we're not the ones who decided to stage an NFL game on it two days before?
The nfl game was booked at Wembley well in advance. Everyone thought by now that Spurs wouldn’t be using Wembley.
I've been a Spurs supporter for 55 years. In that time we've never had a run in the league anywhere near as good as this. We used to win a few cups but that was in a different era when cups mattered. That isn't true any more. The only thing that matters is staying in the CL. If we are not in that we are permanently fighting at a disadvantage. If we stay in it we will eventually win some trophies but that matters a lot less.
When we won the FA Cup in 1991 fifteen points separated us from relegation When we won the Worthington Cup in 1999 eleven points separated us from relegation Last season there were 34 points separating us from relegation, but apparently this doesn't matter because a team looking over their shoulders going into April won a ****ing trophy...
But the media love them especially Graeme Le Saux who goes on and on about how wonderful they are. Pass me a bowl someone!
For anyone that wasn't lucky enough to freeze their bollocks off at Wembley, there was a lovely moment at half-time with Steve Perryman. Paul Coyte read out the statement from Glenn Hoddle and his family about the support from the club, the staff and the fans. He then brought Perryman out to talk about his time playing with Hoddle and an early memory of their relationship. I'm hoping that the club post it online, but it did contain a single swear word, so it might not make it.
I take umbrage at those who seem to think cups are worth little. They are to me. I want to see Spurs win them,or at least show they want them too. Poch is so concerned with the PL.....we don't appear to have that bit extra to win it,as past seasons have shown. So lets go after the cups. There's nothing like lifting a trophy.....and they do say "success breeds success!" COYS!!!! I have noticed that finishing in the top four brings in dollar lolly,so I guess this means more than a trifling pot.....to some!
Not wishing to disrespect Perryman in any way, because he is undoubtedly a Spurs Legend, but I got the impression he was a bit sloshed when he came on.
Definitely. It was rare that one of the interviews was completely coherent and comprehensible, though. Maybe that's the trick?
Awful defending and a terrible way to start a game. Trippier was indecisive and should've just put it out.
It's shocking that the extremely old skool fans amongst us have given up on trophies and also don't seem to want Levy to join the race for further titles. They seem happy somewhere in between so long as we win the Net spend trophy...£28 million for under Poch's tenure with the next closest being £183 mill by Pool. Yet people think Levy is not taking the piss when it comes to the team. In an era where football is flooded with money we are still playing the Levy game.
