If I acquired the old boy, on Wednesday, I’d slap him on the rump and then dispatch him to Michael Blake. Hopeful by the time Squire made his debut for said barn they’d be in much better form.

Wouldn’t be in favour of sending him over the sticks (no pun intended). I’m a keen devotee of that old maxim ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ so at almost 8 Squire and hurdling would not be a good fit in my opinion.

Interesting one for me in that sale would be the Royal Ascot Racing Club’s Projection. A fave of mine who obliged in a Group 3 last month. It could be argued though that off 111 he will be very difficult to place going forward. Not promoting skulduggery (no, no, no, no, no. In fact I'd pull out my duelling pistols should anyone suggest I am) but maybe a few 'below par' efforts to reduce that perch down to a figure in the low to mid 100's and then an assault on something like the Stewards Cup or Ayr Gold Cup would be the order of the day in '19. Just a thought.

Very poor from Tattersalls by the way. When you click on the sales catalogue on the HIT webpage you get the catalogue from 2016 rather than the current one. 0/10.

Not the one I was thinking but he won very nicely didn’t he. Just a shame that the Skelton horse fell before they got racing up the hill.

I was quite disappointed by the novice heats tbh. The ground meant that the big guns didn’t run newcomers

I wrote in Friday’s thread that Thomas Darby clocked a very good time, notebook material and 33/1 for the Supreme.

That maiden looked fair to me with the form revolving around the 3rd home. TD needs to learn how to race, he was so green when asked. First of many HQ winners for his talented trainer

I see from the racing news pages that Samcro is staying over hurdles and likely to be aimed at the Champion hurdle. Neither owner or trainer have won it before.

Is this the winner of the 2019 Champion hurdle in waiting?

I was on the Skelton horse, the old man didn’t look very happy. I mean Skelton the greatest show jumper ever!! If they sort the jumping out they’ve got a machine. I was also on Bakewell tart thought she produced a good round of jumping but bumped into a hardened campaigner on Friday.

Best of luck to Stick and Friends. Had a Grand Finale flutter on Squire, I know he'll try his best, he's that sort of racehorse. Fingers crossed for a good and clear run!

Not a bad run from the old boy- thought for a second he may do it but went down on his sword tonight on his last run for you. Thanks again for sharing him with us, I feel we have been through his races with you!

Any idea how much you think he will go for?!?

Cheers Woolly and the rest of you for all your encouragement on this venture, and others. He will sell for between 2 and 4k. Looking back we should have cashed in when he was worth a heck of a lot more but we were in it for the craic rather than the profit. I just hope he goes to a nice yard.

2k would be a right old bargain, drop into claimers etc over the winter.

Has the yard had problems this year? Only 5 winners and a 2% strike rate, which is well below the normal for the yard. Especially after a good year last time around.

A lot of the old warhorses that rack up the strike rate are getting past it and showing their age. Many have slipped to marks that are well below their winning marks. They also lost a couple in claimers, Peachey Carnehan and Monumental Man who would have been good for a couple of wins apiece. More juveniles in the yard than I have ever seen before and some nice types that will make decent 3yo's, a Nathaniel that I particularly like. They also have a very smart animal that you may not have spotted called The Cruising Lord who comes from a very good winning family and looks like he could be the best yet!
They were Epsoms top yard last season and it was always going to be tough to maintain but the next winner is definitely not too far away ;-)
