Got the chance to buy out the business here after the **** hit the fan in 1998 and eventually sorted it and have essentially been in charge ever since. It was a big risk - had a staff of almost 50 people at the time and we were left with zero bank balances after the BO and just the revenue from outstanding invoices and ongoing projects and with a big outstanding payment due for the purchase price over 3 years. Made loads of mistakes and bad decisions over the years but at least I had no one to blame but myself and generally had a good life from it. It can still be stressful, particularly when the industry as a whole is struggling, as it is at the moment, but gives me the chance to take on projects that interest me as well as pay the rent. Can't imagine working for someone else now.
Pretty much yes to all those listed Commy. Life is a game you only get to play one time, life is experience. For me moving to a different country with an entirely alien culture to mine was exciting and challenging. Some people enjoy the comfort of security and staying pretty much where they were born. I guess it’s all about the individual within ourselves. This is the third country outside of the uk I’ve lived and probably not the last.
I had some pork chops in the fridge that were 8 days past their sell by date. They niffed a little bit but I thought if I cooked them long enough, that should kill any bacteria, so I took the risk; three days glued to the ****ter, but I survived and the chops didn’t go to waste, so worth the risk in the end. Life’s a gamble and I’m a tight ****.
