    We could play Tony McMahon who is a natural right back and Andrew Taylor who is a natural left back and have this:

    Harper

    McMahon - Taylor - Woodgate - Taylor

    Henderson - Cattermole - Carrick

    Johnson - Carroll - Downing

    I know the 2 fullbacks aren't the best but Downing wasted at left back and Ramage would get torchered down the wing

    I like that, and by the way I did mean a NE XI that could beat Scotland, Ireland or Wales individually. I think the above line up would thump all of them. Less so Ireland.

    ROI are a decent side but I will put a couple of points across in defence of N Ireland. The population is roughly 1.7 million. Football is a distant 2nd in terms of participation sports after GAA. Players born in N Ireland can also opt for the Republic due to having Irish citizenship if they so wish, some have opted to play for the Republic. Yorkshire is bigger that NI also.
