So your plan for success is to sign players not considered good enough by clubs who finished below us?
Isn’t it for financial reasons? Plus they don’t need him as they signed midfielders in the summer window instead of waiting until deadline day and trying to haggle with Villa over Grealish.
I have to wonder if he's playing silly buggers with his wage demands - and, since he was linked with the Chavs back in the summer, that sounds remarkably similar to what happened with Barkley
They gave Ozil mega bucks and I think because of that quite rightly Ramsey is wanting a big increase too.
Ramsey is a good player who would improve our squad and probably starting XI (given the fact we're still playing Sissoko* and Dembele). But...... He's a gooner. He's not as good as the money he wants. So i'm out. *Sissoko was actually pretty ok last night
The Sun's already been running the "Poch has two weeks to decide about the Real job" story. Seems like most are completely ignoring the fact Conte has travelled back from Egypt to ensure there's no legislation on Chelsea's end to stop him taking a new job. It's ironic that this happened the same day Real sacked Lopetegui... I have no doubt Real would like Poch but I think if they do move for him, it'll be in the summer. They'll know he'll want to have some time implementing his methods on a side and not just jumping in part way through a season.
He wasn't in the picture when Kane, Son, Lamela or Sanchez signed their new contracts, so I get the feeling somebody at the club got peed off at the contract photos becoming a running joke
I think that has nothing to do with it..it's about signing players to improve our set up. Most if not all of our players come from teams that are not as good as ours due to the personel, finances on offer or recent PL finishes. Someone joining us from a Team finishing in the top 2 of Eredivisie does not mean we have signed players better than our own team either. It's about what works for the dynamics of the team. Ramsey offers more than any of our midfielders as things stand. We signed from teams below us in order to improve us Rose from Leeds Walker from Sheff Utd Dembele from Fulham Toby from Southampton Bale from Southampton and a host of players from weaker leagues
Only Toby was signed as a definite starter in his position. Rose and Walker both went out on loan, Dembele was astriker at Fulham and Bale was a fullback. What they became is down to Tottenham
Of course we can sign players with potential from anywhere. But I don't think it can possibly be a good strategy to sign players who are having their contract run down by their current clubs. As I said, Arsenal see Ramsey everyday and don't think he is worth what he wants to be paid. Why should we take a different view? We've got a very good squad who play together as a team. Making that better is very difficult. We should definitely be trying but signing underacheivers like Ramsey, Andre Gomes and Seri isn't going to work.
and I have faith in Poch that he more than most of our managers in the recent past has the ability to bring out the most in untapped potential. However we couldnt even give Poch someone like Grealish this summer who for all the piss taking by myself also...is exactly the type of talent Poch would nurture. Levy though couldn't hit the 25 million barrier for his signature.
He's only asking for that because he knows Ozil's wage takes the piss. If he ever came to us he would come knowing what the pay structure is like. It's certainly got nothing to do with his talent. Arsenal won't match the 300k they are giving Ozil. They signed our under achiever once and look how that turned out for him. For me based on talent alone I'd welcome Ramsey...we shouldn't be afraid to improve...other top 6 teams do business with each other...we don't...thanks to Levy the super shrewd negotiator. Ramsey would be on a free anyway...not saying he is the answer but we can't baulk at what he brings. You talk about we don't need under achievers yet our team has players being touted as world class and they are under achieving...maybe that's why we get called 'bottlers' because others see this pool of talent under achieving even though many Spurs fans like telling themselves that we are 'punching above our weight' to feel better about the fact that we are standing still on the pitch.
Ramsay's contract is running down because he's likely pissed off that Arsenal gave Ozil a £350k deal yet are likely not even offering him half of that. Unless they offer him a substantial deal, it wouldn't surprise me if he left Arsenal for a lesser contract that they were even offering, it's probably more down to principles with him at the moment. I know that if I'd been at a club for over a decade and saw a teammate get given a bumper new deal, I'd want parity or at least similar terms. Arsenal shot themselves in the foot with the Ozil deal because now most of their current first teamers are likely going to want a similar deal when contract negotiations get opened. I don't personally think Ramsay is the best of players by any means but he'd definitely help improve our side if he joined, as would Seri, Gomes and a number of others. Our CM just isn't good enough anymore for the level we need it to be.
Think that's entirely spurlocks point. Players who are being misued, don't fit the managers plans and often underrated can be gems and wonderful pick ups for other clubs regardless of which club you sign them from. Ramsay in his current state would improve your midfield, if you can snag him for free thats a great deal (provided he's not getting silly wages). Unless the plan is to start paying starstar wages and transfer fees then that sort of player to improve your side is exactly the strategy you should be taking.
