We certainly aren't nailed on, thanks to our fellow dregs, but we're again in the uncomfortable position of hoping that others simply out-suck us. Our next seven are City, Watford, Fulham, Man U, Spurs, Cardiff and Arsenal...a point a game would be a near-miracle.
Oh that is undeniable. Not to mention both embarrassing and depressing. For the second season running, we appear to be entirely reliant on others keeping us up (as I can keep on saying, we didn't save ourselves last season - Swansea and Stoke were just even worse than us). Alas, that is where we've fallen to as a club. And unless it changes, then at some point - whether this season or in the future - we'll run out of luck of having at least three sides worse than us. Quite how last season wasn't a big enough warning sign for the board, I don't know.
I thought we did alright today, solid, plenty of crosses and shots, just lacking a cutting edge as always! Frustrating. Thought we would miss Hojbjerg but Lemina was immense. He was always available, kept us going forward and came closest to scoring. Austin was more mobile than previous games. Ward-Prowse for Elyonoussi next game & Hojbjerg for Austin if fit.
I keep saying that surely, this is the breaking point where the people at the top have no choice but to accept that they need a massive overhaul, and they keep proving to have a much greater appetite for awful than I'd anticipated, so yeah. We'll sack Hughes in a few weeks, hope to survive with 34 points, and declare mission accomplished if we do.
The refreree had a reasonably good game, there were a few wrong decisions, but none critical and affected both sides equally.
Admire your positivity OROW but the fact that we were playing Newcastle at home needs to be considered.
My highlights of the game: - Charlie Austin shouting at Nathan Redmond to **** OFF because Redmond didn't pass to him. - Mr Monopoly losing his bearings in the HT relay - The full time whistle
It's my fault. Whenever I don't drink at football, we never win. Dry January, Sober for October etc. Sorry guys. Normal service resumed fo the next game. (Ignore the dry January when we beat Liverpool twice to reach the LC final...those are cup games and don't count. Oh we beat Leicester 3-0 at home too in that dry Jan, but that doesn't count either). Saturday night and 'Living the dream'......:
A point a game is 7 points. Although we’re not good at the moment, a win against Fulham and cardiff is possible and we could sneak a point against united or Watford. That would be 7 points from 7 games. Not saying I think we could do it, but it’s not that far fetched.
Must have made some improvement, we are second from last on MotD. Only joking we are last as always! Jeff Stelling on Southampton - Their biggest issue clearly is scoring goals, I mean, 81 attempts on goal this season, 6 goals. A Jehovas Whitness has got a better conversion rate than that
My favourite comment from a crowd member at the match just before half time: Announcer: “the fourth official has indicated a minimum of three minutes extra time” Bloke in crowd: “Bastard...”
Why? Elyounoussi was one of our better players today. I'm not claiming he was some sort of human dynamo, but most of our semi-decent attacking moves went through him. If we'd had the same threat down the other side we'd have won easily.
