I think the older you get the more you listen to your parents.

I love Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli, Peas, Carrots, Spinach, Kale, Celery and Cauliflower now.

    Weird eh.

The thing is, you discover that vegetables don’t need to be boiled to death, and that slightly al dente is very tasty!

Just having some cool toast....which is the proper way to have it. All crispy....no melted butter to make it soggy. o_O

    Cue....argument.

I cook my toast in the oven/grill so it’s nice and toasty bread but still greasy butter.

    • Cook the Brussels sprouts in a saucepan of boiling salted water for 8-10 minutes. (bit less suits our taste)
    • Add the bacon lardons to a non-stick frying pan, and fry over a medium heat until crisp.
    • Add the cream and crushed garlic to a small pan and bring to the boil.
    • Stir the sprouts into the crisp bacon; then stir in the hot cream

I peel my sprouts, then sauté them with garlic and bacon/lardons.

Growing up, the only veg I didn't like was boiled carrots. I used to plead with my parents to leave raw ones on my plate for Sunday dinner........but they never did. Always boiled. And I always begrudgingly ate them. Now as a parent myself, I go out of my way to encourage my kids to eat veg by giving them only what they enjoy.....and they are still difficult about it.
Drives me crackers, if they only knew the hardship of when we grew up with grim over boiled orange horribleness! <grr>

I like most food/veg. The only things off the top of my head I can't eat is sprouts, parsnips, swede and anything that comes from the sea.

Today is usually the day I actually cook something that takes longer than 10 mins, but I really can't be bothered so might just do a spaghetti bolognaise as it only takes a short time to prepare and I can just leave it to reduce for a couple of hours.

I’ve made a chicken and chorizo pie, to be served with roasted baby potatoes and peas.
