Less of the old you **** <grr>

    Ok first away games.....

Mine was Filbert Street in 84/5 we won 4-1

My mates car broke down on the M1 & we had to hitchhike the rest of the way to the ground. When we got there we found we had tickets for the home end and there was even a pitch invasion by Arsenal fans.

It later turned out that a mob of Leicester fans were lobbing bricks into a section of Arsenal fans from a building site outside the ground. They had to go on the pitch to get away from the bricks <yikes>

    Happy days:emoticon-0103-cool:

My first away game was to Old Trafford in 1967.We lost 1-0 and Denis Law and Ian Ure got sent off for fighting.
My first trip to Highbury was in 1970,it was a reserve game against Reading and we won 6-1.
My first real game was in 1972 and we beat Newcastle 4-2

  6. Yup I remember that Friday evening. Mickey Thomas's first approach was unsuccessful and then came this one. The floorboards were definitely pounded in my flat that evening

  7. Didn't make this next one but my friend who is a Pool man texted me saying he was up there to watch a proper team play. LOL he was quiet after that

I watched the Anfield 89 game with my mates at home because we couldn't get tickets for Anfield.
My Chelsea supporting mate was ribbing us all game, even at 0-1 'You'll never do it' - 'Liverpool are too strong' 'Even if you score, so will they'

Then 'Dixon..good ball to smith..to Thomas..bursting through the midfield...It's up for grabs Nooooooooooowwwww!!!'

The next few moments were a blur, I remember my mate chinning me accidently in the melee and I remember my mum's favourite porcelain ornament getting knocked off of the table. Then I remember a couple of minutes of what was probably the most anxious moments of my life thus far waiting for the ref to blow up, Livepool had a decent chance in that space as well, I could barely watch.

Then the ref did blow his whistle, cue absolute madness in my house. We went out into the street celebrating, climbing the lamposts. My Arsenal supporting neighbours Bill and Ivy (god rest their souls) were in their late 70's then and they were jumping around singing and celebrating too. The emotion of that evening will live with me forever <ok>

First home game 83/84 season against Liverpool. We lost 0-2 and Dalglish scored a beauty. Charlie Nicholas' first season with us. Think it was the first season we had JVC on our shirts too.
First away game 84/85 at Filbert Street, we beat Leicester 1-4. Same season we signed Viv Anderson. But I remember that season most for Bradford and Heysel :(

No way! How about that? I used to like Filbert St, nice compact little ground. I've still got the programme from that game.

I used to know the route from my old home in Lewisham to Highbury like the back of my hand.

Lewisham - then fast to London Bridge, Waterloo East and Charing Cross.
Short stroll through St Martins in the fields to Leicester Sq tube and the Piccadilly line to Arsenal.

Walking up the last section of the tube station and coming out on Gillespie Rd to the sights and sounds, fans, flag and scarves being sold from front gardens. Horse ****, fried onions and burgers, the old Arsenal travel club..... heady days <ok>

You must remember the pitch invasion (see my post above) I remember that there were pockets of Gooners all round the ground that day.

I liked Filbert St there were quite a few decent pubs nearby. In fact most of my favourite awaydays were all on the Midland Mainline; Leicester, Derby, Nottingham & Sheffield.

Yep, I was only 10 or 11 at the time, it was pretty scary for a young lad like me. I remember my Dad going on about 'bloody hooligans', but yes I think you're right, it was due to missiles being thrown over into the terrace from outside the ground.

The City ground at Forest was always a good day out. Great ground and Forest were a big team back then. What ever happened to them?
