Radiation, it's all heat is anyway.

It converts electricity into high powered radio waves which causes the molecules in your food to vibrate (which we experience as heat). Liquids heat up faster because the bonds between the molecules are weaker. The looser parts of the bolognese, like the tomato sauce, heat up quicker, while the meat takes longer, hence why it tastes cold. Reheating in a microwave isn't great, I always use an oven set on low. Takes longer but you get a better result.

Microwaves are only useful for one thing.

    Sponge puddings.

Everything else should be cooked properly.

    FACT.

Reminds me of a couple of stories about microwave ovens.
    1) A mate of mine got his first about 40 years ago and I was round his place as he was trying to set it up. Everything was going well until he switched on and a few mins later there was this terrible smell of burning. He asked if I'd seen the instruction manual anywhere. Nope, I said. He promptly pulled out the plug, and opened the microwave door.
On the rotating platform there was the bloody manual - somewhat worse for wear !
    2) Whenever a friend of my missus and her husband came to visit us, our cairn terrier (called Chilton...our cat was Wagstaff) used to go mental and barked at them incessantly. Possibly could smell their cat on one of them ?
Anyway, the husband figured out a strategy to shut our bloody dog up. A few visits later, the bloody dog repeating his usual greeting, husband opened the microwave door, bent over to pick the dog up and said to the dog, holding the microwave door open and shaking it to get the dog's attention, in a very stern voice - "How long do you need to dry your fur Chilton old son ?"
Bloody dog shot off upstairs and never barked at 'em again. Magic.<laugh>

Glass of warm milk? Cos that makes a mess in a pan.

But why when you do your warm milk do some mugs take it fine. And others turn it into a molten ring of fire when you grab the handle?? It's suspicious.

Gotta use "fine china" mugs Chazz - the grains are tiny and more packed together, so don't vibrate as much a cheap pottery ( e.g. Hornsea) and therefore remain cooler. #asksterlingarcher#13941above

But apart from the defrosting, starting off baked potatoes and scrambled eggs, what have microwaves ever done for us?
