Ice-cool Webster helps City take heat out of Hull Thursday, October 25th 2018 Ever-present Adam Webster helped City to their sixth clean-sheet of the season and then immediately hit the recovery trail. The summer signing has played every minute of the Robins’ 14 Sky Bet Championship games since joining from Ipswich Town. And after Famara Diédhiou’s 90th-minute goal secured the three points against Hull City at Ashton Gate, Webster was quickly turning his attention to Saturday’s visit of Stoke City. “It’s all about recovery now – nutrition, ice-baths, compression etc. It’s a tough game against Stoke City on Saturday and you need to give yourself the best chance to be right for that,” said the 23-year-old centre-back. “It’s a big game, especially with Stoke having come down from the Premier League and hopefully the fans will be right behind us again.” Webster’s central-defensive partnership with Tomas Kalas was re-united after the Czech Republic recovered from a broken jaw in less than five weeks. “We’re really pleased to keep another clean-sheet and it’s important for any team to have that basis to allow the forwards to go out and do their stuff,” he said. “We just need to build on that and keep going. We pride ourselves on being very fit and not giving up to the end and it’s always the best feeling when you win like that - to do it two games in a row is brilliant.” https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/ice-cool-webster-helps-city-take-heat-out-of-hull/
Don't hear a lot about this guy, 6 clean sheets and not missed a minute of the 14 league games played, excellent record, brilliant signing by LJ and maximum effort. What a player, well done Adam Webster.
Sometimes the under the radar players give more effort than all the hyped up ones that arrive with pomp and circumstance. Give me a Webster type player every time over the likes of Pogba, Sanchez and the rest of the "I'm better than anybody else and unless I get my way I'm moving to Real Madrid" mob. Well done Adam and please pass your determination and work ethics down the line to the rest of your team mates.
Here's a question: Webster or Flint? Early days & different types of players, but it's looking like Webster is a more well-rounded defender...
We all loved Flint but the guy has moved on and deserves all the success he can gain, imagine if we had Flint alongside Webster, could have been a match made in heaven, we now have Webster, 6 clean sheets and 14 games played, not a minute missed, time has moved also for us, Webster is the man for me and the new era. To try and answer your question and I know it's only hyperthetical, If I had to make the choice it would be Flint, a huge heart, a bulwark in defence and a natural goalscoer, a true warrior for us.
Webster already is a far better footballer, is much better on the ball and reads the game in a way Flint can only dream of , he is also young and imo will improve, I think we have a gem on our hands. In flints favour though there is no better in the air , in both boxes, has the heart of a lion and is an inspiration to those around him . So different types of player , both with their own strengths. Wiz is the past , Webster the future , Flint is already a favourite, I believe Webster will become one in the future. He has the potential to be the best centre half we’ve had since Gary Collier , will he reach those dizzy heights ?, only time will tell.
I'm truly glad these comments are coming out, when I saw this article this morning that was the reason I repeated it on here, a guy who has just got on with his game, showed class and has never, as far as I know had a mention, we get all of the headliners but this guy just does it. LJ seems to have signed a class act, he also deserves some credit.
We are much stronger defensively now than we were last season, we will of course miss Flint and Bryan offensively but their main job was to defend and we have better defenders now in the team
Flint wins more headers and wins more duels. Webster is a far more accurate passer of the ball and makes more interventions. Webster is a better rounded footballer. Aden Flint is an exceptional specialist player. They are entirely different players. It should be noted that Aden Flint is part of the division best defence. In the case of Joe Bryan his primary role was not to defend. His role was to add flexibility to attack, its why he went to last seasons top passing football team.
My MOM against Hull , not 100% sure, & can’t be arsed to check, but seem to remember was the previous home game too, he took a couple of games to settle , but since then he’s been class. He must have had more illustrious suitors, so credit LJ etc for persuading him to join us.
Yes but I would look at Kalas as being Flints short term replacement. Mr Johnson moved quickly to address a deficiency left by Flints transfer and may have a real improvement. It looks encouraging so far.
Adam Webster was a brilliant young centre half for Pompey, and it was no surprise when Ipswich came in for him. We got a decent fee for him bearing in mind we were playing in the second division at that time. Mick McCarthy let us have another young centre half in Matt Clarke on a free transfer as part of the deal, and he is now an excellent prospect as well. I hope he does really well for you !! I see you have Marlon Pack in midfield as well. He was never given a proper chance with us, and then that berk Steve Cotterill let him leave on a free transfer to Cheltenham Good luck this season
