    Oh f***.

First Ipswich Derby win nailed on.

He'd also turn those young players around. He will motivate and get the best out of young and "underdog" players. If it's true, it's a really smart appointment.

I'd be disappointed that Lambert would take that job though.

Question back: Initial reactions on twitter looks like fans don't want Lambert? Is that just the Norwich connection? Or something else? With how Loved Lambert was here, how gutted we were to lose him, I would have thought that would be another reason to want him?

He has previous experience of getting teams out of league one
at the first attempt - and on a very low budget,
    And, let's face it, that's where you'll be - and that's what ££
the unlucky incumbent will have to work with!
Lambert would tie all those loose ends up a treat. <gift>

Culverhouse was his assistant wasn't he? Apparently he's recently out of work as well, which would possibly tie in with our owner speaking to managers in the past week or so and Lambert wanting him alongside him again.

I think most fans would be a little sceptical of a former rival manager joining, but I'm not as partisan as most, so if he can do a job (which he did very well with your lot) then I'll have him.

    Both ex-Norwich.

Sounds strange both would want to go there. I know they need work, and offers might be few and far between. But your squad, money, owner, league position, and the fact they would join the bitter rivals. Stranger things happen in football. But seems a bit odd.

He's already had a bash at Colchester and Norwich - he only needs
Southend and you guys for the full East Anglian set!
Didn't set the world alight at Villa, Wolves or Blackburn, as I recall.

Wow. Thought the initial reaction to Lambert was just a few hotheads initial response.

I've seen so few who want him. So many saying Lambert would be awful. Really strange. He's a much better manager than a club in that position deserve.

I've vague recollections of Culverhouse being pretty essential to the way Lambert worked, so that's a good sign for you guys. I think he's one of the better appointments you could make. Famous last words, but I don't think he'll ever be involved in a turnaround as great as he had at Norwich though, that was as much down to McNally as it was Lambert. And if anything is clear, it's that Marcus Evans is not McNally.

In other news, after 18 months of unemployment, Seb Bassong has rocked up in league one with Peterborough.

A lot of people shocked at that. I'm not.

He's an ok Championship CB, and Posh recruit really well. Posh are also probably going to gain promotion. I think that's a great signing for Posh, and a decent job for Seb.

I’m not sure you could think of anything funnier thanIf Lambert were to get us relegated.. not sure there could be anything worse for a Town fan.

Seems a bold move as he won’t get much patience from the fans if he doesn’t start well

I think that's the biggest problem you'll have with his appointment. From what I've seen, it doesn't appear you have a squad that are significantly underachieving - it's a weak squad, struggling. Lambert can't bring anyone in for at least 12 games, Hurst only got 14 and like you say, Lambert won't get much patience. It's a concern that by the time he's able to move from steadying the ship to trying to make positive changes, the fans could be hounding him out.

I really don't know about Lambert, He did fabulously well for us but has done naff all since. Much like a player if the fit is right and the stars align things can go fabulously well. I'm beginning to think Lambert could be a: Dowie, Ince, Bruce etc. Touted with everything but actually not doing much to justify it. His and the binners hope must rest on Culverhouse being the missing link and bringing back the Lambert magic.
One thing is for sure he must be truly desperate as that is one stupidly tough job for anyone leave alone someone with his Norwich past.

    Bah!

Without wanting to stick the boot in, is there a less attractive managerial job in English football right now - vacant or otherwise?

Also, the odds listed on "thesackrace.com" are hilarious. Lambert is favourite, followed by Paul Heckingbottom and Tim Sherwood. Craig Bellamy is 5th, Bruce 6th! Shame Simon Grayson has to spoil the ex-Canary party!

It's so crazy how many of us said "If Mick goes, you are in so much trouble".

Then had so many years of "Mick Out". "he's destroying our club"

I said for many, many years on here. Mick had performed magic from nothing. If they sack him, they are in trouble.

It seems so mad Ipswich fans are angry! They wanted this!! And they are still moaning!

It's been so funny to watch. They asked for this, but are so upset what they wanted is happening.

We were in a far worse state when Mick was appointed.. In fact I’d say that while we’re a side that lacks quality, more than anything it’s to do with a complete lack of balance and a distinct lack of goals.

Squad wise we’re comfortably bottom 6 but I don’t think we’re miles adrift & Burton etc have shown a good system can be enough to win enough games to see you safe.

This sacking muddies the status of a club with a patient owner, but 1 win in 15 would get you sacked at most clubs

Let's face it, Lambert has no personal attachment to NCFC at all beyond that job being the highlight of his CV. I'm sure he's not salivating at the thought of taking this one on but needs must and he'll want employment. Thinking about it though, he's probably a really good fit. Little pressure given what he's got to work with. If he turns Ipswich around he'll be back in the headlines again. Only issue I see beyond the quality available is his relationship with Evans as the Jan window approaches.
