I was pleasantly surprised by my visit to Spotland last season. You have pre conceived images of a grim Northern sh1thole, full of grimy men wearing cloth caps racing whippets. In fact a 30 min cab journey from Bury took in some pleasant suburbia and leafy villages. The ground itself is typical League One fare, but there is a cracking pub behind the home end where they welcome away fans and you get a pie and a pint for under a fiver. You can only speak as you find, but given the high stakes involved for both clubs on that day, I found the Rochdale fans a very friendly bunch. I subsequently spoke to the local MP about my trip up there, and he said the club is owned by a group of local businessman, none of them big hitters, but local folk who feel a "sense of responsibility to keep the club going for the local community". Again, what a contrast to the charlatan ruining our club right now
I have got very little enthusiasm for the current regime as you know, and now my sons are older they are losing interest in football ...
Team: Steer Djiksteel Bielik Pearce Taylor Pratley Ward Aribo Grant Solly Cullen Igor back on the bench today.
After 15 games Charlton are currently 2 points and 1 league place better off than we were under Russell Slade two seasons ago. I think the first thing Bowyer should do is appoint another penalty taker. If we cannot score from open play, making the most of penalties becomes even more important.
The defence is also a problem mate - 3 clean sheets in 15 is woeful. Jed Steer getting stick from our travelling fans today I read. Time to get Dillon Phillips back next Saturday. We all know that no manager & players can’t suceed under this helmet of an owner, but this lot are looking for excuses.
From what I have been told it isn't Lee Bowyer who picks our goalkeeper, it's Aston Villa. If true, then dropping Steer isn't an option unless he gets injured.
Keith Hill's comments are very interesting.... we had the more talented players but they had more heart and energy https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2018/october/hill--post-charlton_27.10.18/ Hard to argue with by all accounts.
