Ermm I'm not sure if my kid who is 16 and he swears to his mother would get my arm around him and an explanation...I did that as I was raising him.

He might get at the very least a ****ing punch in his foul mouthed gob that was raised to better standards than the one he displayed to no less than his own dear mother.

If my 3 year old did then he would get the explanation...not that he would give a **** because he would rather be watching Paw Patrol.

As it goes my 16 year old is a sound lad and I've never had to raise my hand at him...so if he did start to chat ****...I'd wonder if it's the iron rod he never had on his back that has allowed him to become a ****.

Yeah, it's already happened. Shockingly it was a draw so they are having a rematch to make even more millions.

A guy I knew a few years ago started a youtube channel, he was talking to us about it and trying to get us involved (this was before youtube was really a thing) we laughed at him and called him an idiot. He now has about 2 million subscribers and plays fifa as his full time job earning almost certainly 6 figures doing so, turns out he was actually the smart one.

You have 2 girls, girls tend to listen, and are far better behaved than boys. If you had 2 boys there's a good chance they would simply ignore you, and you would understand sometimes they need a whack. ground me, take away my favourite thing, might have a bit of an effect on me, the leather slipper didn't do all that much either, but I knew if I crossed a bigger line I'd get the belt (bringn home the cops, for example), and the thought of that stopped me doing a few things, cos that thing ****ing hurt. Being rude to an adult would've got me that from my dad, and my mum would've shoved a bar of imperial leather in my mouth, and that **** tastes nasty, and you can't get rid of the taste for ages.

Interesting you say all this as I also got the bar of soap treatment and got a crack on the head with a wooden spoon if I was being a proper little ****er.

None of it makes me want to do the same to my kids though, irrespective of how far they push things. I don't resent it being done to me, it doesn't bother me and it doesn't affect my relationship with my own parents, but I do not ever want to lay a finger on my own kids.

I just instinctively don't, that approach isn't for me.

lol, I can't remember what I did, but knew the wooden spoon was imminent and hid it and went out before my parents got back from shopping. I'm not saying you should whack your children for every little misdemeanour, but there are times when it's a far better punishment than any other, because pain is a teacher. Thewre's also a lot of evidence that telling kids 'don't' and 'not' has the complete opposite effect, due to neural linguistics, there is no miscommunication with a slap. I remember my brother running into the road when he was small and getting the hardest slap around the legs from my dad I can remember, he never ran into the road again.

My Mrs has done this to our kids. I agree it works and is a severe warning for when they put themselves in danger, rather than them being naughty as such.

Even so, I'm bigger than her and I would probably inflict too much pain for my liking.

Once gave my middle 'un a clip round the ear mind, he deserved it too!

I was hit pretty regularly as a kid, probably up to the age of about 8. I don't think it put me off being a little **** at all. I'm sure there were times where it was for my own safety like the road example, but I really don't think getting hit put me off messing around and being naughty. I can't remember my parents ever taking anything away from me as a punishment, I only had a tv so not much to take away really. It isn't like now with the amount of gadgets every house has.

I don't really agree with hitting kids. It teaches them that violence is acceptable. I once watched my sister in law smack her son and as he didn't feel like he could hit her back he turned around and whacked my daughter. I should caveat that example by saying that he's not a nice kid.

lol, mine continued until I got kicked out of school, (teacher was trying to humiliate me, it backfired on him badly) though there was one punch to the head after that, looking back, not sure if it was thoroughly deserved, the kicking me out was probably enough. I got the belt once when I was 12 or 13, after I said "it didn't hurt' after a slippering (the leather moccasins had gone by then). Still, it did teach me, I never said it again and I always bought him slippers for Christmas which I'd test for their high sound, low pain parameters before purchase. Who knows what the other shoppers thought when they saw a kid slapping his arms slippers.
yeah, there was a bit of that, I bought my little brother and sister some kids boxing gloves one christmas, they were forced to use them for my viewing pleasure. But on the other hand, maybe he's just a ****, some kids are, no matter what you do.

Yeah it was only my mum who used to hit me, my Dad just shouted and swore at me. By about 7 or 8 the hitting with a hand didn't hurt and I used to laugh at her when she did it, so she started using other stuff. A hairbrush was her favourite and that hurt like ****, especially if she used the spiky side, it had metal spikes so was very painful. She also used to punch me with her "diamond" ring if I'd been particularly bad, which also hurt a lot. I think she realised it wasn't working by about age 9 or so so stopped. I was a very independent kid though, was out by myself going up the park and stuff by that age and hardly spent any time with my parents really so maybe that was also it.

There's a hell of a difference between a smack and a beating and some parents don't know where the line is.

I once stopped a woman beating her kid in Marks & Spencers. Told her if she hit her kid again (about 5 or 6-ish) I'd do the same to her with the same force she was using.

I also said it rather loudly which was worse for her as she was humiliated in front of quite a few people. All the kid had done was pick a shirt off a rail. ****ing woman was brutal and that kid's going to grow up beating the **** out of everyone around him. Useless shop security guard did **** all!
