This is something that is beginning to get on my wick, the way sports reporting has started to re-brand clubs..... First we had John Terry's Aston Villa, then Frank Lampard's Derby County and Steven Gerrard's Glasgow Rangers. Now reading through the beeb text of tonights Champions (sic) League games every mention of Monaco is prefixed with "Thierry Henry's" as in "Club Brugge have just drawn level with Thierry Henry's Monaco" FFS it's getting ridiculous we know who these teams are and just because a famous Ex Premier League player now happens to be either playing for them or managing them they are named as part of the team name...... These sports journalists need to realise that not everyone hangs on what ex players are doing, who cares, simply report the club as they are called without the sycophant prefix........ Rant over......
Maybe it depends on the club. I can't say I've heard reference to Jose Mourinho's Manchester United or Unai Emery's Arsenal. Maybe if the manager is a "bigger" name than the club he gets top billing. I'd be a bit p*ssed off if I'd supported a club for years only to find it referred to as somehow belonging to the current celebrity manager. I'd be utterly p*ssed off if John Terry was in any way associated with my club let alone have him as manager although saying that I don't think we have any worries on that front given his past history with QPR!
