Therefore you are agreeing that Spurs's squad is of the same or similar strength to Liverpool's?

So, what's the disparity of the odds about then, if it's not a view that Klopp is, on the face of it, more capable of winning the league than Poch?

The bookies are also reflecting the assertion, by the general football media led by all of TalkSport and the BBC, that it became a two horse race after two games.

Thus discounting Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. The herd just then follow this nonsense and lump on City or Liverpool and ignore the rest.

Yeah I'd say they are of similar strength...odds are probably lower for Pool because they know what Mousers are like and will flock to put the bets on. That's why they always win the radio polls...they suckers for it

Yeah, this and the fact that a large majority of current generation football followers are clueless sheep who just believe what the likes of Alan Shearer and Alan Brazil tell them.

That would be no use to anyone. If you could go back to August 2015 you could fill your boots backing Leicester, but do you personally know anyone that did?

Let's put this another way. If you genuinely believe Spurs' squad to be as good as Liverpool's, then you should probably be piling into that 33/1. But no one is, because no one seriously believes Spurs are even live outsiders for the PL title. Liverpool are another matter; that's why they're only 3/1.

The squad quality is not the only variable though is it?

City have had the best squad (and most expensive) over the last 3 years and only won 1 PL title.

Indeed, the initial prices made by the bookmakers reflect the chance the rest is market influences.

There may be a bit of herd instinct framing the markets, but the fact is that they are rarely too far wrong. How often do 33/1 shots win, in any market? Then compare that to how many times 4/6 shots win.

No, it isn't the only variable. But if you created a graph covering the last 10 years, showing the cost of assembling a squad, the wages of that squad, and finishing positions in the table, it's a pretty safe bet it would illustrate a major correlation between money and success.

United already have more money to spend than anyone... They just waste it on players like Pogba and managers like Jose Mourinho.

They have the funds now that a decent manager and they could be able to challenge again for top 4 next year.

SA won't make a difference. They already have more money than anyone else.

Saudi could make a massive difference,

They could buy and sell The Glazers with their pocket money!..

It's not just about spending money though, it's how you spend it.

They can pull $200 million for an also-ran like Pogba their income also dwarfs everyone else.

Their problem isn't lack of money and I doubt SA will make much of a difference.

Probably for the first few transfer windows they will spend like crazy and break some transfer records... But then it will be back to normal... I don't see a change... They already are a club wealthy enough to buy whoever they want as long as that player wants them.... Nothing is changing.

    True.

But it helps if you’ve got it to spend in the first place.
