Just wish we wouldn't keep looking at out of work managers, after all they are out of work for a reason. I get that MP1 and RK were out of work and that didnt go too badly but MP2 and Puel (didnt really have a problem with him) were and that was poor, and I expect MH wont be too pretty either. Just wish we could show some bloody ambition and appoint someone who was already doing a good job for a club. Adkins went pretty well. Try and poach some one

Tbf if the Hughes rumours are true then now is the time I would be least bothered going for an out of work manager. Off the top of my head I can't remember the last time a Prem side appointed somebody in a job during the season (I'm sure someone will remember). Owen Coyle is the last one I can remember ffs :D

The time we really should've been targeting a manager like you describe was in the summer instead of appointing Hughes, or the previous summers with Puel and Pellegrino

So if they sack MH this early in the season , who will trust the board again ?

    Rather sad ..IF true .

Someone who would probably be nailed on to leave at the first opportunity?

Hughes deserves his chance, we should keep faith a bit longer imo.

Exactly. Surely best to give Hughes a bit of time to get Saints winning games imo, we are not playing so badly overall, its not like last season or even the end part of the season before. If they get shot of Hughes now and get someone who is half good, he will be off in a years time just like MP1 and Koeman and we will be back to square one. And if they get a MP2 clone then we are even worse off than at present.. Saturday is a big day for Hughes and Saints though, anything but a win from this game and the fall out will be Hiroshima-like.

I find it quite amusing that two managers, that were coveted by Saints fans prior to us employing Hughes full time, are managing clubs in the bottom three.
For what it’s worth Stan Collymore would like Hughes as director of football at Aston Villa.

The problem is that Saints must be sure they will land their new manager before sacking Hughes....don't want a period sans manager in the middle of the season....and it is easier to approach and sign someone who is unemployed. As for being unemployed for a reason....all managers are one day nearer being sacked the moment they sign a contract. The rare few in no danger are so good we will never get them...or even rarer, at a club with patience.

I understand the conundrum...the timing of a manager sacking is very hard to get right. Are you too late or too early? I accept that this season was never going to be monumentally fantastic, but hoped for a nice steady ship. On that basis....sacking may be too early...we are only a few games in and a couple of wins could suddenly make everything different. If you had high hopes (and who did reallyo_O) it may be time for a sacking.

I hate the idea that we are seen as a sacking club, but not as much as I hate the idea of relegation. Stick or twist. Glad I'm not running the club....also glad that you lot aren't as well<laugh>

I agree that he needs more time.
The problem he, and previous managers have had, is that our strikers/players are incredibly consistent, in a bad way. They are consistent in the way they fail to convert fairly simple chances.
If we weren’t creating chances then I would be less tolerant towards him.

I wouldn't mind trying a successful manager from a lower league. Surely we would be attractive to them. I know it would be risky but surely any appointment is. Definitely would not be impressed in Allardyce.

Can’t see that sacking Hughes is the short term answer. Whoever you brought in will take quite a while to sort out any problems. When and if he was to be able to sort out the rabble we have at the moment by that time we would probably be saying we want Hughes back!! You have to give Sparky a bit of credit he kept us up when we were really in the **** and deserves a decent run. Don’t think anything will happen until just before Christmas to be honest. As long as we are out of the bottom three then I don’t think this board will sack him then. Now whether they will splash out for a decent playmaker in the Jan market is another thought......personally can’t see it.

I can taste a bit of sick in my mouth just reading the allardyce name. If we ever went there my support is going on hiatus. The club would offically be monumentally ****ed if that happened.

I'm not suggesting we sack him yet, just saying that if he does go can we please avoid Allardyce or the others constantly on the manager merry go round.

I agree and I don't believe i ever said he should go just yet. What i did say was that if the powers that be say he goes, that we don't get Allardyce or any of the ones on the manager merry go round gravy train.
