Afternoon Milky, I don't think the players could be any fitter. I just can't see the same players week in, week out being able to give the intensity and physicality needed for the Championship to keep going week after week.

Afternoon Matt, my point was that fitness has helped them press and find space, but yep the big question re bielsa’s Style of play and it’s toll on players is if they can sustain it over a season.

    Alright Ell.

Still on the road to recovery dossing about at home for another two weeks which is all getting a bit boring. Sternum takes another 7 weeks to fully heal but as I am a pen pusher I can go back to work at the beginning of November. That should be fun trying to get back to getting up at 6.00am and standing on a train into good old London City.

To be fair, ristac did say the poster was a valuable member of the forum, so that kind of ruled wakey out. Kerching.

Agree with all that, especially the bit about a goalie, the defence is now starting to creak a bit, could it be because their isn't much confidence in BPF hopefully not a repeat of last season with Felix,i am sure it's not,but can't help it crossing my mind, trouble is Blackman imho is no better.

Think it's Eire that's gone,it seems being put in his place by a Swansea fan was the last straw <yikes> <laugh>

    Can't be
Swansea fans can't put anyone in their place.
Eire got thicker skin than that.
Anyway if it is he should not be so bl--dy daft and get on here and give Shaks some stick. <nahnah>

Maybe his calling/communication isn’t great it’s hard to tell. Not sure how horrendous misplaced back headers and miscued backpasses are the keepers fault though.

Interesting to see Mowbray say, they identified we were a bunch of shorta*rses, and their setpiece strategy was to pull our centre-halves away from where the ball was to be delivered. Not rocket science, but we can’t put the team on stilts. Previous seasons we’ve had Jansen free to attack the ball. You can instruct your keeper to come for more, but there’s a reason why keepers don’t come charging out of their goal a lot for corners..generally the movement of modern balls combined with the opposition blocking and sheer numbers of players in the way make it high risk. Rule of thumb seems to be, 6 yard box is their job, outside it’s the defenders. On Saturday he got two corners just outside the 6 yard box... the first I don’t think any keeper would have come for... the second some would, some wouldn’t. BPF comes for crosses but is less likely to come for corners... Instruction? Judgement? Dunno.

All things being equal I guess you’d expect decision making and communication to be something that gets better with experience for a keeper, maybe it’s a weakness for BPF. Maybe it’s the price of playing a young keeper. Dunno.

Some don’t rate BPF and that’s their prerogative. On the stats sites I mentioned earlier he was among the higher rated keepers in the championship. Who knows how they calculate it. But I don’t see how sh*t marking at corners, mis-hit back-passes, full backs getting skinned by wingers which is what happened on Saturday, are his fault.
