Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport:"It was a good game from Huddersfield and not so good game from us. So we'll take it. "I sometimes look frustrated on the touchline even if were winning. The performance wasn't 100% it looked like we could have scored in six or seven situations but we needed one better pass. "We did lots of good things and then the last pass wasn't good. How can I explain that? I need to look back at the game. The players weren't great with their last pass." On Huddersfield's winless start:"I watch most of Huddersfield's game and they've played Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham, Leicester, Everton... that is the hardest fixture list I've heard about."
Result means the Reds match their best-ever points haul after nine PL games (23) as well as record their greatest defensive start (just three conceded) Reading that ...well I feel better lol
Player ratings Alisson 2 Gomez 1 Lovren 2 van Dijk 1 Robertson 1 Shaqiri 2 Henderson 1 Milner 1 Salah 2 Sturridge 1 Lallana 1 Wijnaldum 1 Fabinho 1 Firmino 1 The team needs to work hard to bounce back from this win
Certainly some drama going on, mixed team due to injuries, players coming back from internationals at different times etc. Away from home 0-1, tidy Salah finish, another clean sheet 23 points in 9 games..... could be worse people
Poor show but we got 3 points. Shaq played ok, but Firminho should have started instead of Studge. We miss Mane's pace up front, and it is amazing that we have suddenly forgotten how to pass in the final third. Last season it all flowed so naturally. Think we will get top 4 again, but unless we improve dramatically we will be 10/12 points behind City at the end of the season.
hmmm this 10 point **** is getting legs. if only someone would hashtag it now. yes but I'm certainly not telling you
Poor performance but we got the job done..don't care if everyone else puts 5 past them because only beating Huddersfield 1-0 won't be the main difference between winning the league and not. Also Lallana's never been one of my favourite players and if he replicates today's performance 2-3 months down the line then he'll deserve whatever criticism he gets, but today was his first match back from injury and 1st game of the season? The guy barely played for most of last year. It was a poor performance but I feel like he's being unfairly scapegoated by some fans.
I've never made a secret of the fact that I rank entertainment value highly in a football match. I'm content that we're gathering in the points, but the performances really need to improve a lot. The defence is doing ok (though a bit lucky today), but going forward we're a pale shadow of last year.
thus ignoring the other 10 or 12 incidents in the game such as lovren handling it, diving in etc etc. tbh though robertson was far worse that either. his seeming inability to get distance on any clearances will eventually cost us even more than lovren full lovren switch. I hope we can break 80 points this year, I remain optimistic but I just get the feeling it won't be the back 4 that will stop it. the only positive I saw today was that when fabinho came on he tried to play the ball quick and one touch. I don't k ow why we have gone so bad lately but it feels like the whole lot of the front 6 players whoever they are seem to need 5 touches and none of them want to just move 5 yards and play a simple pass (that's not straight back to the lad that passes to them) until we play more one touch football and see real movement that's not 30 yard lung busting runs but simply being available to the mad on the ball we are just going to keep relying on narrow victories. we have seen too many dry periods under klopp in the past that if we get one we might draw 4 not lose 4 but we will be out of things in a flash. just need that to come... dunno where it's gone
I saw nothing from lallana to blame him there. tbh shaqiri seems to get a lot of plus its but he did precious little more. for me Huddersfield played a game we SHOULD have absolutely laughed at. they'd 6 men up pressing and a couple.good passes and we should have been away.... we just didn t ever do it.
Do you think it's just about balance .... Klopp saw the full on press attack worked well but not title clinching well. Focused on defebse and now it's working great but now the balance has tipped a little too much that way and there's a disconnect . I personally think he knows what we know that it was always the midfield from back to front that was the real issue and got the players in but also knew those players would never be up to speed to match up front and defence this half of season ... Introducing them has caused good and bad.... good? Likes of widji has upped the effort.. bad? It's disjointed and probably will be for a while yet. Maybe the perfect balance won't come.... I doubt that though... I think maybe this season might come too soon for it but I bet we look damn good 2nd half
I thought Lala did what he does... his one mostly effective trick and a lot of hard work... not highlight reel stuff but not bloopers either. Shaqs puts in better passes in final 3rd than lala.. better than anyone else up front at mo ... I've been impressed that he works as hard as he does given previous rep.
Poor performance but 3pts and we onto the next match. Bit of a joke giving Salah motm because he scored the winner. He should have had ast last two assists but for him passing to Huddersfield players all game
Of the season?.................We may well do. Mel Reddy was talking about this recently and said that both at Dortmund and Mainz Klopp's teams showed a gradual increase in form as the season(s) wore on. I'm not taking much notice of the GD at the mo, next week we are at home to Cardiff while Citeh are away at Spurs. Also Chelsea away at Burnley and Arsenal away at Palace ...........we shall see
We're solid at the back, the attack will get better. Might not be the best football we've seen but we're in a good position. No complaints from me.
One of those games where no one really deserved motm. Not one player had a "great" game... even Robertson looked out of sorts and he's like a younger Milner and normally sits at 80% performance minimum.
