"Southampton's best opportunities fell to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who twice tested home goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from distance." - BBC. I guess it is a game of opinions
It has potential to be one of the most dire games in PL history, I might go along just for the laugh more than anything.
I do think that our corners and final ball need working on though, we got in some great wide positions today.
Well said, we could easily have won that with slightly better finishing. A decent defensive performance for once too.
Well played and for 90 minutes too. Shame we can't score even when its an open goal but got to be grateful for small mercies when you are in a mess
The BBC reported must have left for a cuppa at about 80 minutes and missed Armstrong and Gabbi's "efforts"
Vital. To put seven points between them and us, not to mention consigning them to successive bad defeats to Brighton and us, would be massive. But on the other hand, if we lose, they probably move to being just one point from safety - despite their horror start - with a favourable fixture list ahead. It's almost the perfect game for Newcastle, thinking about. Given their bad start, losing at home to Brighton could be very, very difficult to get over. But if there's one game where you might just get yourself right back on track, it's a trip to St Marys. And if they did that, suddenly it's us who could be looking at a bad home defeat which is very difficult to get over.
Oh well, I guess I can watch motd tonight - secure in the knowledge that I'll be fast akip long before we're on.
Not a bad game, really. Solid defensive work, though still need to work some on set pieces. Still, we never let Bournemouth get going and we moved the ball around much better. Gabbiadini should have scored, though it wasn’t quite a sitter. I think Begovic had Armstrong covered, and Austin had to try and create. In retrospect, maybe he should have taken the shot but the keeper was there, so.. We didn’t give the strikers enough chances, but at least we did give them chances. Played some okay balls over the top and put in some decent crosses though a little inconsistent. Overall, a decent point away. Maybe a little something to build off. We are still in major trouble because prior results but today at least we looked competent.
Know what u mean but maybe the salary would motivate you ! Saints played pretty well today apart from not getting the bloody ball in the net. Hughes did ok today.
Just got home, haven't seen any of the game and just reading on here sounds like my mate Hoedt was MOTM? Not sure why Stephens has been picked ahead of anyone but sounds like he has done well too so fair play. Hughes really doesn't rate Yoshida does he? So was it a backs to wall 0-0? A tragic boring 0-0? Or were we dominating? (I know, I know but I had to ask)
I just like to say that I can't see what Mo El gives the team atm, it was a fairly nondescript performance from him today. Although Armstrong missed a good chance he was at least getting involved in the creative stuff and popping up in dangerous areas.
I've just started making similar comments in the last couple of weeks. I'm not saying that I'm writing the guy off, because it's far too early for that. He looked good against Leicester. But he isn't really contributing at the moment, and looks a yard short of pace. Our forward line is struggling enough for goals as it is, so it isn't really a time to be carrying a non-contributing wide-man. However, unless we change formation, we don't really have much of an alternative. Maybe JWP playing RM and Redmond LM, would be the only one. I really hope that come the end of the season, I'm not adding Tadic to the list of players who we have failed to replace. Because if I am, it'll quite probably be that we're playing in the Championship next year.
Said before I'd be content with a draw and haven't changed my mind. For confidence it was important not to lose. Let's build on it with a win against Newcastle.
