I find it strange how you can lump a whole nation into one collective voice..I'm sure there will be lot's of Scots who will be just like you and hate everything English; but I'm just as sure that there will be other Scots just like me who will recognise the fact that England is a diverse nation that will have elements that they like and others that they don't.

Right going try and clear this up, Hopefully once and for all. I have read so many variations of this story and some of it has been grossly exaggerated.

His comments was taken completely out of context during light hearted banter between himself and a Sports Journalist. The journalist has teased Murray by referring to Scotland failed attempt to qualify and jesting about England's campaign-. Now both of them later confirmed this was not serious and as usual a tabloid took some of the comments selectively out of the interview and made a story out of it, knowing Scottish and English rift would do the rest.

The poor guy got tonnes of hate mail because of it and during Radio 5 interview tried to clear this up during another bout of banter. Instead many of ignored the facts and made up their own story.

    Here the article from Wiki

Murray identifies himself as Scottish and British.[200][201] Prior to Wimbledon 2006, Murray caused some public debate when he was quoted as saying he would "support anyone but England" at the 2006 World Cup.[202] He received large amounts of hate mail on his website as a result.[203] It was also reported that Murray had worn a Paraguay shirt on the day of England's World Cup match with the South American team.[202]

Murray explained that his comments were said in jest during a light-hearted interview with sports columnist Maurice Russo,[204] who asked him if he would be supporting Scotland in the World Cup, in the knowledge that Scotland had failed to qualify for the tournament.[205] Sports journalist Des Kelly wrote that another tabloid had later "lifted a couple of [the comments] into a 'story' that took on a life of its own and from there the truth was lost" and that he despaired over the "nonsensical criticism".[206]

Murray protested that he is "not anti-English and never was"[200] and he expressed disappointment over England's subsequent elimination by Portugal.[207] In an interview with Nicky Campbell on BBC Radio 5 Live, Tim Henman confirmed that the remarks had been made in jest and were only in response to Murray being teased by Kelly[204] and Henman.[208] He also stated that the rumour that Murray had worn a Paraguay shirt was untrue.[208]

In an interview with Gabby Logan for the BBC's Inside Sport programme, Murray said that he was both Scottish and British and was comfortable and happy with his British identity.[209] He said he saw no conflict between the two and was equally proud of them. He has also pointed out that he is quarter English with some of his family originating from Newcastle, and that his girlfriend, Kim Sears, is English

Journalists really are scum, he knew Murray had said that in jest but twisted it to shift a few papers.

Close shave for Murray last night. Not ideal going to five sets early on, I'm not sure who he has in the next round but I believe it's Del Potro in the fourth, so he'll need to get his next match out of the way quickly to be at his best. He usually goes through a spell in a slam where he's shocking, hopefully that'll be it for this tournament. :D

Yes and I always have the feeling Andy is suspicious of journalists - wonder why that could be then?

I expected Andy to struggle in that match but he came through in the end. I agree he could do with an easy win now.

Murray has been stitched up by some of the tabloids, but I couldn't care less if the whole thing has been taken wildly out of context. If a prominent English sportsman made similar comments about Scotland in any context, some would never forgive, and the vast majority would never forget.

To be fair to Murray, he did win the most entertaining match of this year's tournament last night.

The thing was the tabloid that made the story wasnt even at the interview, so it wasnt even the journalist that was having a laugh with Murray and Henman that was pulling a fast one.

Yeah must agree he was very lucky to beat Hasse last night, I think at times he good and his talents shines. But like most matches when it's not going this way, it almost like he has 3 opponents to over come. Like last night Hasse, the crowd and himself.

I think if he gets it right mentally he going to be a much more consistent player. Also if he going to increase his chances to winning this year, he really going to have to up his game.
