do you think its worth the risk with Williams, Taylor, Allen playing for wales while we are short of strength in depth and up against the best league in the world ? I know they love playing for our country but how often were the likes of giggs, bellamy and others pulled by top managers all be it some with week excuses like coughs and colds to protect the A team from unessesary injuries !
Too right they should play for our country. They could get injured any time, doing anything, ask Tate!! It's what you get with progress & success. As our club is developing, we're going to have more players eligible for international duty!! Players should represent their country after all....
I hated it when Giggs pulled out on some whimsical nonexistent injury, and I'd hate for Brendan to pressure our players into doing so. If the player doesn't want to play for Wales, then fine, but you shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose your games. The injury thing is sadly a risk every sportsman takes.
So is your priority club or country ? club survival in prem or wales win a few games ? iff you had to pick only one !
aber i would prefer to keep players fit rather than play for wales at this time for various reasons. As for me not being welsh you suppose wrong mate.
C'mon Wales!! We need some top performances tonight. Bale, Bellamy, Ramsey, Collison, Williams, Vaughan & the rest. Do you country proud for once.....
Why risk it??? Because it would be disgusting if they pulled out due to a piss poor excuse as many welsh international have in the past. I want both, a premier league team and a decent international team. Even though they can't qualify these last games with effectively no pressure is going to be the most important games of this current crop of players as they can learn to play together more effectively and god willing make a major championship!! other established premed league teams can have nearly 15 internationals and compete so that is what we should be aiming for!!
Maybe a bit cautious but the wales games not that important at the moment i dont fancy meeting arsenal and the like without all our best players available iff risks can be limited then do it !
Totally agree jackdan!! Too many players have let our country down in the past with late withdrawals, retirements, 'throwing dummies out of the pram episodes'!! So maybe for once, we might have a small nucleus of players committed to the cause. We're 117th in the world ffs, when is going to be a good time to release our players to represent our country!! A good performance tonight might lift the 'gloom' a tad & maybe give us a platform to move on in a positive direction. It is absolutely disgusting where we are in the rankings, not that I'm totally convinced of their validity in Wales' case. But that's where we are & why we're in pot 6!! I've no issue Swans' players being available.... On a side note. Northern Ireland seem to far overachieve compared to us, with less talent to choose from. It's about time Wales started to show up & if that means our players being there to aid that, I'm all for it ....
would love to see ALL players proud to play for their country in rep games that have a meaning eg WC, Euro games but the meaningless friendlies, perhaps a slight niggle and if i was a manager i would say no
re the rankings and WSAF mentioned Wales are ranked 117, has anyone sat down and read how these rankings are devised. i read then reread then retired hurt trying to figure it out.
Great result for our boys' tonight. Good performance too. Glad for Speed to get off the mark. Difficult road ahead, but maybe a valuable confidence booster to take us on. Special plaudits for Bale & Taylor. Assured & confident defensive display for Neil. Gareth doing what he does best, running at players with pace!! Well done lads.....
Got to give a mention to Bellamy he had a cracking game tonight and often fell back to help Taylor out when needed and for me he just shaded Bale for MOM. She about his outrageous yellow card from the twat of a referee
In answer to the original thread....... International sport is simply the greatest honour a person can have in any sport (and I speak from personal experience). Many of the last generation of Welsh footballers have done a major inservice to a generation by their obvious selfishness and greed. Lets not forget how very privileged they are in the first place. Whilst we are at it, if Angel or another player decides to commit to the cause.... brilliant. Give me someone who's legally deciding to change passports/allegiance and really wanting to play at international level over some mush who we have to drag in only when they feel the time is right.
very well said swim however i wonder at brazilians playing for qatar etc etc, i believe the whole system needs to be looked at
