While I don't agree with suing companies for smoking, being overweight etc. the problem arises when said companies deny that their products are harmful. Cigarette companies denied for years that smoking caused cancer and other lung diseases so people had every right to sue them when they started developing those diseases after smoking for years. Ditto McDonalds and their claim that selling a Supersize meal which provides around 1,200 calories per serving (or breakfast as Pud calls it) doesn't cause obesity when clearly it does.

You could argue that people shouldn't be eating Supersize meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner but if the company states that such a meal isn't unhealthy they leave themselves open to litigation.

In regards to smoking I was talking about the 50s thru 80s. Many people who smoked then developed lung cancer in the 1980s and 90s so had every right to sue because the tobacco companies had spent decades telling them that cigarettes didn't cause cancer.

If McDonalds say a meal that contains 1,200 calories, is full of fat and sugar and is available all day and denies it's unhealthy then, **** 'em, they deserve to be sued. Yes, people need to take personal responsibility but companies need to be honest otherwise they can face potential litigation.

McDonalds list ingredients and calorie count. If you're that thick that you do not understand that a burger , fries and coke every day is unhealthy then you deserve diabetes, cancer of the arsehole or a heart attack .

 

It's only in recent years they started doing it and it was in response to people suing them and complaining about their Supersize meals.

But, yes I agree with you, people who eat at McDonalds deserve to die.

 

The chubbies in America who were the inspiration behind Super Size Me lost their case (at least at the time of the film they did) because the courts decided that you can't be prosecuted for producing food that may not be all that healthy as it is not in your power or remit to monitor or curb someone's eating habits. If this case was won you'd have Tate & Lyle sued because they make sugar which is used in cakes and sweets. What if a proper porker walks into McDonalds and orders up a couple of Big Mac meals? Is the server supposed to give them the third degree about who the food is for or even refuse to serve them because they are too fat already?

If you offer clear calorific advice (which they do) along with clear nutritional advice (which they do) and also offer "healthier" alternatives (which they do) then McDonalds can't be held accountable for a couple of fat c.unts who don't want to take any responsibility for their own actions.

Just wait for the pot-heads who are currently rubbing their hands together at the thought of weed on the NHS trying to sue the Government in 10 years time because they have gone mental and blame State Skunk for it.

While maybe not as bad as the USA we are fast becoming a nation of twats who are not able to accept any personal liability or responsibility.

 

Actually, that wouldn't be a bad idea. Publicans are supposed to refuse you if you're too pished so why shouldn't fast food restaurants refuse to serve land whales?

Nah, the odd occasion I have had a McDonalds or a Burger King, they are completely tasteless I find. The best part is the salad with it, which is somewhat worrying.
