Yup, more or less ended the cheap booze cruises as they were back in them days. I think papers such as the sun withdrew all cheap crossing promotions after this accident. Changed their name to P&O Ferries.
Yes. Roll on, roll off, appears at the time was standard practice to leave with the doors open to save time. They never stood a chance, especially if you was lower deck with the bar/cafe/restaurant...no escape.
