Yes! ... that was great directing because it made it truly unpleasant viewing ... watching you wanted to be able to step in and beat him to death but couldn't .... clearly not equivalent but surely as close as you can get watching to feel as helpless as the character .... that's not exploitation... that's empathy ...

Why I think films/series like it should be made ... some will feel the empathy watching the news or reading a paper... some will be reached by a film or series moment... the rest? That don't? They are the ones we need to defend ourselves against... legally ... I'm in a positive mood lol

There's a good scene from the PM where he encourages people to not be changed and to continue to speak and not resort to their methods.

They're the ones who want easy answers and childish explanations about boogy men, monsters and mental health issues. Many many people in this world partake in it but don't live in reality, they just want the naive sanitised version. I mean, the families themselves were consulted for the film and okayed everything. Kermode reviewed it today and came onto the exact word I thought watching it ... uncivilised. That's what those acts were. The film is about society choosing to be civilised in the face of barbarity when it would be easy to resort to the same barbarity, like the father and the main boy who both say they'd more than happily beat him to death and/or string Breivik up. But they don't. They choose to beat him in other ways, they humiliate, punish and ultimately dismiss him through civilised processes.

One thing I thought was that the trial was all a game for Breivik. By encouraging the court to get him evaluated and re-evaluated and then accepting their findings, then changing to rejecting them and wanting a proper trial is pure manipulation by him. He wanted the families and the country to suffer even more and to also stir up and stoke further civic unrest and violent reprisals to further his political ends and desire for social breakdown.

So going on what we've done here.... the film has done exactly what what was needed?

I know there's more idiotic characters on this platform but I really like our board because we discuss things like this ... we don't always agree but it's comforting that with this type of platform it promotes intelligence not 140 character screaming...

I do worry that we are in a period of mob ... like newspapers before it .... social media has made it easier to incite with soundbites than actually vehemently discuss and disagree but come away not wishing the other dead or wanting to withdraw the others right to speak.

The stories coming from some Uni's ... the no platforming is the start to a bad end .. it can't happen... confront, dissect, but can't silence....

But ultimately left with nothing, the people of Norway can be proud of how they have dealt with this disillusioned fool.

Recently got annoyed with my oldest for suggesting that right wing people should be shut down. We have to talk, to debate and also listen. We might not like what we hear (film) but we will listen.

    Yup.

My cousin .... has literally the same background, education as me.... same schools, uni, subjects, results.... and yet thinks very right wing , loves Trump. ... I don't understand it...I mean I also have the same reaction to the high end middle class kids (now adults) that went to school with me that are now full on Corbyn...

On one hand I look at the guy and say "I know your family, you're as educated as me: how do get the same results in a politics and history degree and believe what trump is saying?

Same with the others... you went through the same analytical training as me... how do you not see the holes?

    But..... that's a liberal society ......

Except both those examples aggressively want to shut down my critique instead of respond... if your argument is sound ...reasonable people will be convinced

Finished season 2 of The Blacklist the other day. Bumping it up to a 8.5/10. Really enjoying it.

It's.not only education. it can be just plain what's said around someone as they grow up.
If you develop a feeling of others sponging while your family works from your parents then I imagine Trump a ****e sounds great.

same for corbyn lovers. you you got the rich 1% do us down stick.

people like a nice comfortable black and white view and someone else to blame.

Norsemen on Netflix is very enjoyable

Saw a few films and other shows on there as well ...

    Apostle which is very good

Gangs of New York, a rewatch, saw it years ago, a lot more simplistic than I remember but still very good

Battle Ground, WW1 film which was ok, worth a look if you like that kind of thing and at a loose end

Lone Survivor, again, rewatched this which was worth doing as it's nice and tense

Gerald's Game, Stephen King adaptation with a very narrow concept that it manages to make interesting and flesh out although it's a bit ropey at times in doing so

Also watched a couple of episodes of The Haunting of Hill House, this seems ok, it's engaging but not sure I get just how hyped it is, but maybe need to give it more time

Avengers - Infinity War; decent but probably too much happening with too many characters, I'll give it a 7.3

It is long but it is meant to be an epic.

I would however tend to agree 3 movies could have been made from it and there are glaring plot holes.

    7.5 max
