There’s only one sensible answer, I’m afraid...

The Beatles, of course. They literally revolutionised popular music.

    Cannot stand either of them

Rolling Stones v Led Zepplin would be a better contest.

Stones would win that one hands down. Up against the writing of Page / Plant though or Jagger / Richards ... ?

    Who wins ?

Theresa May trying to dance like Mick Jagger might actually make people's eyeballs explode.

I think this answers that question

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cover_versions_of_Beatles_songs

Clearly the huge number of Beatles song remakes and covers (Wikipedia doesn't even have a list for Abba because there aren't that many) is a clear example that the Beatles have more staying power.

ABBA was a bright flame that quickly burnt out. The Beatles, whether you like them or not were much more influential and continue to be based on the continuing number of covers of their work.

    There's also this:
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmc...s-dominate-the-bestselling-vinyl-albums-list/

2 of top 10 albums sold on vinyl last year were Beatles... Long after they made any new music. No sign of ABBA.

So many other better guitarists around in the 70's than Page, as for Plant and Jagger, Steve Marriott was better than both and he played a beautiful guitar too..<ok>

Small Faces were a great band, but better than the Stones or Zepplin ? Not for me.

Humble Pie, the Small Faces spin off were up with the best, Steve Marriott was a phenomenal performer. I'm a massive Stones fan as I am Zeppelin and saw so many of them perform in the 70's, so I'm not saying they were better but more interesting musically at that time, as were Wishbone Ash concerts..

I saw them all in concert re 72-76 but for me the best ever bands I saw were Bowie (the Ziggy tour), Mick Ronson so so underrated and Pink Floyd in Berlin early 80's.. Peter Gabriel didn't disappoint in 2013, Simple Minds didn't either in 1990, music is good for the soul..<ok>

    Well, obviously, they’re older.

Their music will last far longer than any of us here.

    I love The Beatles.

I enjoy dancing to Abba tunes at a wedding.

Great Wum thread Fan, ABBA musically perfect the Beatles were raw but became the same. Anyways it’s difficult to compare the two as music had changed.
