    You seem to be forgetting that the vampire can bite mate. Anyone claiming a town role isn't necessarily town aligned!

    Tonight is the third night so the vampire team could theoretically hit full strength with three members too.

    I've not seen a mafia recruit either, are these secret too? Or do they not have a recruit option?

    I've played this game many times, very rare that the mafia can't recruit, especially when there are eighteen to start with.

    Knowing vampires can bite definitely sticks in your brain though. As does town not revealing too early...
