Correct, Elfs. Brighton is fantastic. I'm going there during the half-term for my 40th celebrations. <ok>

My ten favourite cities in England:
    London
    Canterbury
    Lincoln
    Durham
    Chester
    Norwich
    Nottingham
    Winchester
    Brighton
    Cambridge

You should be able to get a hop in whilst you're down there.

<laugh> too true! I used to live in Chislehurst and the people of Bromley used to come to our area (at weekends) to stare at the posh houses <ok> now they come to rob them :(

Whatever you do, don't bother paying for one of the horsedrawn tours from the Cloth Hall. They take you to the foot of Wawel Castle (you can walk there in ten minutes) and back again, all the while feeding you basic information you can get for free from the Tourist Info office.

The buggy rides are far better. They cost a bit more, but you'll see the proper sites of Krakow, including Schindler's factory and house, the Jewish quarter and Ghetto Heroes Square, and the magnificent university buildings. Plus, the views from the bridges are stunning, especially at dusk.

I also recommend an evening walk round Planty. You'll get to see the medieval buildings and enjoy the wonderful gardens.

And don't bother getting a cab from the airport to the city centre; they are an absolute rip off. Cross the road to the train station and pay approximately £1 for a single journey, which takes about 15 minutes.

If you buy (excellent) Polish goods, you'll pay peanuts for them. Buy imported goods (German, American, British), you'll pay pretty much the same as here. Buy a coffee in an independent cafe for less than a quid. Buy a Costa and you'll pay £3.

You'll love Krakow. It's the Bruges of the East.

Biggest pile of crap I have read on here. Travel broadens the mind. You must be very narrow minded. I have friends and relations all around the world. I love travelling to their Countries. I also like travelling to places I haven't been to before. Places where there are no friends and relations. I hate this Little Englander attitude. I also love travelling around England. I have just come back from Scarborough and York where I saw three wonderful Plays. An Inspector Calls, Joking Apart and the latest production of Alan Ayckbourn. Also took part in a question and answer session with Ayckbourn.
Travel to Foreign Countries doesn't mean sun bathing, vomiting in a Bar etc. There is so much else to do.

<applause> Travel is a balm to the soul.

Scarborough is such a gem. And the cod cannot be beaten.

The best fish and chips I've ever tasted are from the van on St Mary's, Scilly. Batter to kill for.

The chippy in Aldeburgh is another belter. :) Just watch out for the seagulls - they're the size of pterodactyls and probably more vicious.

Thanks for the heads up Ponders.

We are staying next to Planty so we will look forward to that. We were mindful of staying next to the Old Town from other comments.

Coupled with what you said, I gather that a wonderful meal for two with drinks will cost not more than £30.

I am hoping to go to Auschwitz, I have been before but I was hoping I could persuade my wife to go, at the moment she is not too keen.

With travelling broadening the mind, perhaps Mr van Gerwen should get down to the passport office immediately.

Sorry about my ranting reply (now deleted).
I'm spoiling a thread everybody else is enjoying. Not right to do that.

Lardy not everyone shags on the beach and pukes everywhere? And some of these countries / communities depend on tourism to survive - think you are being a bit narrow minded there mate
